David (Bruce Willis) is having problems with Maddie (Cybill Shepherd) and the relationship she has begun with Sam (Mark Harmon) and it’s just going to cause him to spin out of control, drunkenly, even as he tries to be civil and friendly. Sam & Dave was writte by Charles H. Eglee and Roger Director from…
The Institute (2019) – Stephen King
It doesn’t say it directly, but The Institute, the latest King book I’ve read, could exist in the same world as The Shop from Firestarter, and one wonders if perhaps there’s a connection to the Dark Tower and the breakers or The Dead Zone. The tale follows young Luke Ellis, a bit of a boy…
Star Trek: Voyager (2000) – Child’s Play, and Good Shepherd
Captain’s log: stardate unknown Raf Green pens the teleplay for this episode from a story by Paul Brown, it first aired on 8 March, 2000, and perhaps sees the departure of some (or all) of the annoying drone children. The Voyager discovers one of the children’s home planets, the teen, Icheb (Manu Intiryami). Unfortunately Seven…
Project Nim (2011) – James Marsh
The What Else to Watch list in DK Canada’s The Movie Book is proving fruitful with some fantastic documentaries, as they recommend a number of titles following my screening of Man On Wire. In the 70s, a newborn chimpanzee, named Nim, is recruited for a scientific experiment to explore nature versus nurture, to see if…
Gertie the Dinosaur (1915) – Winsor McCay
I move into another chapter in DK Canada’s immensely enjoyable Monsters in the Movies book from director John Landis. I leave behind Myths, Legends and Fairy Tales and move on to Dragons & Dinosaurs. And first up is one of the earliest examples of animation, Gertie the Dinosaur. This silent short film was originally created…
Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2010) – Voyage of Temptation, Duchess of Mandalore, and Death Trap
“Fear not for the future, weep not for the past.” The Mandalore arc continues this week in this story written by Paul Dini which first aired on 5 February, 2010. Traveling aboard a vessel to Coruscant, Obi-Wan Kenobi (James Arnold Taylor) and Anakin Skywalker (Matt Lanter) are assigned to protect the Council of Neutral Systems,…
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) – Ron Howard
I’m very particular about my holiday specials when it comes to television and movies. My treasured titles are very select, and I get very put out when a new one is thrust upon me. I love A Charlie Brown Christmas, Emmett Otter, John Denver & The Muppets, The Muppet Family Christmas (I like my Muppets),…
Star Trek: Voyager (2000) – Spirit Folk, and Ashes to Ashes
Captain’s log: stardate unknown The crew of the Voyager return to the holodeck and the restored Fair Haven program in this episode written by Bryan Fuller. It first aired on 23 February, 2007. The holograms that populate the program begin to become suspicious of the crew and begin to think they may be fairies or…
Moonlighting (1987) – Poltergeist III DiPesto Nothing, and Blonde on Blonde
Agnes DiPesto (Allyce Beasley) has been working for the Blue Moon Detective Agency from the beginning, Bert Viola (Curtis Armstrong who made a great addition to the cast) has been there for three months and he’s already working a case. So Agnes, without telling David (Bruce Willis) or Maddie (Cybill Shepherd) takes on one of…
Tiamat’s Wrath (2019) – James S.A. Corey
I say this every time I review one of these books. I love them! I love travelling with this crew, I love the way the story gets doled out, the way not only the action beats play out, but the emotional ones as well. And this book, literally had me cheering, laughing and weeping. After…
