Sometimes the days just get away from me, and I fall behind on the things I need to watch because things get so busy, so I was quite happy to settle in and catch up on the most recent episodes of the wonderfully entertaining Murdoch Mysteries! First up is Murdoch of the Living Dead….

Murdoch Mysteries S07E04 – Return of Sherlock Holmes
Gail Harvey returns to the director’s chair for this week’s episode, which sees the return of the character of David Kingsley (Andrew Gower), who due to a trauma, has taken on the persona of Sherlock Holmes to help him deal, and protect himself mentally. He joins Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) in an investigation that weaves…
Toronto After Dark Shorts Program
On a Saturday afternoon, there’s nothing better than curling up and enjoying some cinematic entertainment, and this afternoon, I let those festival programmers at Toronto After Dark pick my entertainment, with 9 specially selected from over 450 entries and there were some strong choices. The collection started with an odd little two-minute computer generated…
Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes) (1997) – Alejandro Amenabar
Reimagined as Vanilla Sky in North America, the original film is a wonderfully crafted imagining and a welcome addition to the 101 Sci-Fi Movies list. Cesar (Eduardo Noriega) is rich, handsome, and a bit of a womanizer. When he has problems ditching his latest fling Nuria (Najwa Nimri), he chats up Sofia (Penelope Cruz) the potential…
TIFF 2013: The Sacrament – Ti West
I don’t think I’ve mentioned before how happy I am to see Colin Geddes programming the Vanguard films at TIFF now, too, in addition to his regular Midnight Madness crazy duties. I’ve come to hold Colin’s opinion in high esteem, particularly where the weird and wacky of the fest come into play, so it’s…
The Fugitive (1993) – Andrew Davis
Andrew Davis has back to back entries in the 101 Action Movies list, first Under Siege, and now the big screen version of the classic television show, The Fugitive, starring Harrison Ford, as Doctor Richard Kimble, and Tommy Lee Jones as U.S. Marshall Sam Gerard. This film, is inextricably tied to a point in…
The Killing – Season 3 So Far
Since I’ve been abysmal at keeping up with recapping each episode this season, I thought I would just leave it until the finale and talk abou the whole thing at that point. But THEN I watched episode 9: Reckoning, and it was all I could do to not start a post while I was…
The Five Deadly Venoms (1978) – Cheh Chang
The Shaw Brothers bring another film to the 101 Action Movies list that brings all the variables we’ve come to expect from the classic kung fu movies, fights, betrayals, secrets, and more fights! Cheh Chang directs the tale that has a convoluted and engaging plot as young Yang Tieh (Sheng Chiang) is summoned to his…
The Killing – S3 Premiere The Jungle and That You Fear The Most
I have to admit, as gutted as I was when The Killing was cancelled after a brilliant and heart-breaking second season, I actually never thought that the day would come when I could see Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) and Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman) back on my screen. I am ecstatic to have been wrong…
A Haunting At Silver Falls (2013) – Brett Donowho
Anchorbay sent a long a copy of A Haunting at Silver Falls for me to take a look at for its release this week. I like how Donowho approached it, aiming to make it more of a supernatural thriller as opposed to a “boo! scared you!” horror film. And it would have worked, if one…
