The third volume of the Dark Crystal novels continues to interweave with the Netflix series, Age of Resistance, even though some of the details are different. That doesn’t detract from the story, it just another version of the telling, perhaps a song told by Kylan the Gelfling as I join him, Naia, Tavra, Amri of…

Song of the Dark Crystal (2017) – J.M. Lee
The second novel in The Dark Crystal series by J.M. Lee (again featuring illustrations by Cory Godbey) picks up just after the events of the first book, and actually ties in with episode four of The Age of Resistance series on Netflix, though some of the details of characters meeting have changed since the novel…
The Haunting of Hill House (2018) – Blu-Ray Review
Last year Netflix dropped the addictive, binge it all at once series, The Haunting of Hill House from writer-director Mike Flanagan. And now it comes home on blu-ray with extended episodes and commentary tracks to enhance the viewing experience as one of the most famous haunted house tales comes home in a new way. Taking…
Infernal Affairs (2002) – Andrew Lau Wai-Keung, and Alan Mak
DK Canada’s The Movie Book rolls out the What Else to Watch list following my screening of Oldboy. Infernal Affairs is up for viewing, and served as the basis for the North American adaptation, The Departed. Yes, The Departed is a solid film, the original is so much better. Tightly edited, fantastically crafted the film…

Every one who visits this site knows I’ve raved about the gorgeous collection of books that DK Canada has in their library, and I love that they are bringing their passionate love of pop culture with them with a wealth of boos to entertain all readers. There are a number of great books to be…
Star Trek: Voyager (1998) – Living Witness, and Demon
Captain’s log: stardate unknown Tim Russ directs this episode from Bryan Fuller, Brannon Braga and Joe Menosky from a story by Braga. It first aired on 29 April, 1998. This is a great Doctor (Robert Picardo) story as the episode follows a backup version of the Doctor that is activated some several hundred years in…
Star Trek: Voyager (1998) – Waking Moments, and Message in a Bottle
Captain’s log: stardate 51471.3 Andre Bormanis (who serves as the science consultant for both Voyager and Deep Space Nine) pens this episode that first aired on 14 January, 1998. The crew of the Voyager all seem to be suffering from night terrors, and all of them feature the exact same alien (Mark Colson) . Of…
Unsolved Murders: True Crime Cases Uncovered (2019) – Amber Hunt & Emily G. Thompson
DK Canada’s latest release invites you to investigate the darker corners of the human psyche, as authors Hunt and Thompson take you through twenty of the most gruesome unsolved murders that have haunted society since their occurrence. I think all of us, to some degree or another, are fascinated by the darkness within the human…
Star Wars: The Last Jedi – The Visual Dictionary (2017) – Pablo Hidalgo
Available now from DK Canada is this amazing companion piece to the new Star Wars film. Filled with hints, that are now canon, about characters, both new, like Supreme Leader Snoke, and old, like Luke Skywalker. Leafing through the pages , I catch things that I didn’t see in the screening but ties in nicely…
Chaplin (1992) Richard Attenborough
As I return to DK Canada’s The Movie Book, the next film they highlight is the Chaplin classic, City Lights. That is a title I’d previously reviewed, and so I dove write into What Else to Watch, as I had already reviewed his key movies, and the first one on the list I hadn’t previously…
