Topaz (1969) – Alfred Hitchcock
Hitchcock takes on Leon Uris’ novel Topaz in this film adaptation of the same name. It’s not quite on the level of a Tom Clancy techno-thriller, but the subject material, centring around the Cuban Missile Crisis and a Russian spy ring within the French intelligence community is pretty engaging stuff. Unfortunately, for me, it ended…
Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988) – Tony Randel
DK Canada’s Monsters in the Movies continues to guide me through the demonic darkness of the Devil’s Work, and brings me to one of my favourite horror creations, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser. The first film is gory, unnerving, and slickly created by Barker himself, and now thanks to Monsters in the Movies, I get to revisit…
Star Wars: Rebels (2016) – The Protector of Concord Dawn, Legends of the Lasat, and The Call
The rebels are looking for hyperspace routes that will allow them to elude Imperial patrols in the first episode this week, The Protector of the Concord Dawn. Written by Henry Gilroy and Kevin Hopps this episode first debuted on 27 January, 2016. They’ve found a shortcut, but they have to get the permission of the…
The Golden Child (1986) – Micheal Ritchie
The next title in DK Canada’s Monsters in the Movies, as I continue my journey through the chapters on the Devil’s Works is a film that features demons, magic, and Eddie Murphy, and I don’t know why, but this, to me, feels like a forgotten film of the 80s, The Golden Child. I remember seeing it…
Star Trek: Discovery (2019) – Light and Shadows, and If Memory Serves
Captain’s log: 2257 Ted Sullivan pens this episode from a story he developed with Vaun Wilmott. It first debuted on 28 February, 2019. and sees Micheal Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) returning to Vulcan in the search for Spock (Ethan Peck). It seems after his escape and disappearance, he returned to Vulcan, where Amanda (Mia Kirshner) has…
Chuck (2010) – Versus the Nacho Sampler, and Versus the Mask
Chuck (Zachary Levi) has lots on his plate this week, as he trains a new Nerd Herder, Hannah (Kristin Kreuk) in Chuck Versus the Nacho Sampler. Written by Matthew Miller and Scott Rosenbaum, this episode first debuted on 1 February, 2010. With stuff going on at the BuyMore, Chuck also has his spycraft, he has…
Star Trek: Best Destiny (1992) – Diane Carey
Author Diane Carey pens a follow-up to her novel, The Final Frontier, as we head out into space again with Captain Robert April (a character I’ve quite grown to like through his appearances in The Animated Series, and the novels), of the U.S.S. Enterprise, George Kirk, and Kirk’s sixteen year old, problem-filled teen, Jimmy Kirk….
Five Midnights (2019) – Ann Davila Cardinal
I’ve found myself craving something spooky to read again, and threw that into a google search, and it came back with this title, one I hadn’t heard of, and I promptly went off and found it. It ended up being a young adult novel, never a problem for me, as I love some of the…
Star Trek: Discovery (2019) – Saints of Imperfection, and The Sound of Thunder
Captain’s log: stardate unknown Kirsten Beyer pens Saints of Imperfection which first aired on 14 February, 2019. What starts off as an episode that we think may finally deliver the goods and give us Spock (Ethan Peck) as Discovery has picked up the warp trail of his stolen shuttle, leads instead to an exploration of…
