Project: Hail Mary (2021) – Andy Weir
I loved Andy Weir’s The Martian, and happily dug into Project: Hail Mary (I still need to read Artemis), and was completely wowed by it. I haven’t had this sense of wonder and sense of discovery and exploration since I read Clarke’s Odyssey and Rama series. Ryland Grace, former biologist turned teacher wakes up and…
Rivers of London (2011) – Ben Aaronovitch
Rivers of London, originally released as Midnight Riot before it was retitled to launch the continuing series of novels it spawned, was a wonderful surprise and a complete joy to read, and a fantastic introduction into the genre of urban fantasy. PC Peter Grant is afraid he’s going to end up doing administrative duty once…
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) – 4K Review
There’s something about kaiju and apex predators that fires up the imagination, and the movie magic that helps create them, if done right, can transport the viewer. The idea that there are beings, titans by another name, out there that have dominance over the planet, that could wipe us out with barely a thought is…

Phantasm: Ravager (2016) – David Hartman
For the first time, Don Coscarelli lets someone else in the director’s chair for an entry in the Phantasm series (could you imagine a reboot, or a television series rework of this?) though he had his hand in the script as well as producing. Reggie (Reggie Bannister), Michael (A. Michael Baldwin), Jody (Bill Thornbury) and…

Hess, this episode first aired on 17 October, 1975. The group is coming back from a medical gathering, but have somehow got lost on the way back to the…
Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) – John Carl Buechler
Jason Vorhees (Kane Hodder slips on the mask this time out) as the masked killer is resurrected from the depths of Crystal Lake to wreak havoc on a whole new group of twenty-somethings. But this time around he may be confronting a Final Girl unlike any other, and one who is responsible for his return…
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider 4K Double Feature
Paramount Pictures brings Angelina Jolie’s foray into the action adventure world of video game character Lara Croft home in a new 4K upgrade two pack. And while neither film quite reaches the heights that the studio was hoping for – a female Indiana Jones character seems like a surefire win to me, as long as…
