Smallville (2006) – Reunion, and Fallout

Steven S. DeKnight wrote Reunion, which first aired on 26 October, 2006.

Former classmates of Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) and Oliver (Justin Hartley) begin to turn up dead, causing the two to blame each other, as they are also haunted by a prep school incident from their past.

I’d like to care a little, but seeing rich dickheads getting some form of comeuppance, I don’t feel that bad about it. Maybe cause we know Lex is going to be a baddie, and honestly, I don’t quite enjoy this version of Oliver Queen.

Chloe (Allison Mack) and Clark (Tom Welling) are still working to track down the phantom zone escapees. To get some help from Oliver, Clark agrees to help figure out what is going on at Excelsior Academy and who is trying to kill all of their classmates. Oliver believes Lex is behind all of it, but someone seems to be after Lex as well.

And how is Lionel (John Glover) involved?

As the truth begins to come out, it shifts a bit from a Lex/Oliver story to a Clark/Lois (Erica Durance) investigation, which is fine, but it feels a little unbalanced. The pair figure out what is going on, and what truly happened at Excelsior all those years ago.

And the friendship between Lex and Clark is definitely over, and we also see that Lex is a very loose cannon and can be incredibly violent.

Oh, and I’m really starting to vibe on the interactions between Lois and Clark; there’s a lot of fun happening there, finally. It doesn’t feel quite as forced as it did in earlier episodes.

Fallout was written by Holly Harold, and it first aired on 2 November, 2006,

Raya (Pascale Hutton) is back and she and Clark are hunting down another Phantom Zone escapee, one that possesses Baern (Shad Moss back when he was known as Bow Wow) who kills Brandon Jay McLaren during the opening of the show.

Baern knows about the Kryptonian Black Box that Lex and Lana (Kristin Kreuk) have from the ship, and he wants it. Speaking of Lana, is she starting to realize that there are levels and games being played by Luthor and how much is she really privy to and what are her own motivations now? Does she really love him?

Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore) is pulling that thread, something he shares with Chloe in an attempt to woo her again. He also makes the mistake of going to Lex to get answers.

I do like the stuff between Clark and Raya. It’s fun to see Clark able to be himself with Raya, and there’s some really nice chemistry between them. She also works to get him working on his training and accept his destiny.

Unfortunately, with the phantom zone escapee Baern causing problems, all of this may take longer than Clark realizes. The trio have a final showdown in the Fortress of Solitude, and Clark uses his father’s crystal, you know… the one with the familiar symbol? But it also means we have to say bye to Raya.

This one’s okay. We see problems developing with Lex and Lana, Clark moves a little closer to his destiny (this is taking a really long time) and it’s nice to have the fortress back.

Tyrol has given himself a new haircut… and whoa… he’s not in the best condition either.
