Before season four of Battlestar Galactica began, and we could start to dwell on the mystery of how Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) came back and what is going to happen with Baltar (James Callis) and the stunning reveal of four of the Final Five Cylons, Ronald D. Moore and his creative team went back in time….

Battlestar Galactica (2007) – Maelstrom, and The Son Also Rises
Maelstrom is a Starbuck (Katee Sachoff) heavy episode written by David Weddle and Bradley Thompson. It first aired on 4 March, 2007. Adama (Edward James Olmos) has to consider grounding Starbuck as she seems increasingly on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Her captivity by Leoben (Callum Keith Rennie) on New Caprica, her painting of…
Battlestar Galactica (2005) – Bastille Day, and Act of Contrition
The Galactica has found water on a nearby ice planet. Now they have to get it to the fleet. The idea of using the prisoners aboard the Astral Queen is floated, and problems ensue in Bastille Day. Written by Toni Graphia this episode was first broadcast on 21 January, 2005. The episode features some of…
Farscape (2002) – What Was Lost: Part 2 – Resurrection, and Lava’s a Many Splendored Thing
What Was Lost: Part 2 – Resurrection picks up moments after the cliffhanger of the previous episode, with Crichton (Ben Browder) surviving his jump from the cliff, and rescued by a waterbound species. Reuniting with D’Argo (Anthony Simcoe) and Sikozu (Raelee Hill) who reveal that he’s been exposed to Grayza’s (Rebecca Riggs) controlling pheromones. Now,…
Star Trek: Discovery – Wonderlands (2021) – Una McCormack
Una McCormack delivers another engaging Trek novel, and having firmly cemented herself in the role of my favorite Star Trek author, I dug into this one, Wonderlands, now available from Simon & Schuster through their Gallery Books imprint, with abandon. It’s 3188. Commander Michael Burnham has been catapulted some 900 years into the future, as…
Battlestar Galactica 10: The Long Patrol (1984) – Ron Goulart, and Glen A. Larson
I don’t know who gave the okay to adapt The Long Patrol to a novel, and let it be a standalone tale. Despite the fact that Starbuck is the story’s central character, I hated it when it originally aired, I hate it every time I rewatch the series, and I hated reading an adaptation of…
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) – Blu-Ray Review
Alden Ehrenreich takes on the iconic role of scoundrel and smuggler Han Solo, as Lawrence Kasdan, and his son Jonathan Kasdan pen the script for the Ron Howard directed film which comes home on blu-ray and DVD today from Disney and Lucasfilm. While it stumbled a bit at the box office, coming to close on…
Saving Private Ryan (1998) – Steven Spielberg
I was stunned when I first saw Saving Private Ryan on opening day, 24 July, 1998. I had never seen war depicted so realistically, so heart-breaking, graphic, and impactful. I held onto the names of Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks like a mantra through the film, to guide me through it, to make everything be…
Quantum Leap (1990) – Animal Frat and Another Mother
Sam (Scott Bakula) is back in school, when he leaps into Knut ‘Wild Thing’ Wileton, in Animal Frat. This Animal House-like episode was penned by Chris Ruppenthal and aired 3 January, 1990. It’s 19 October, 1967, and Sam seems to be Big Man On Campus, but as always, he’s there to put something right,…
A Boy and His Dog (1975) – L.Q. Jones
Harlan Ellison’s classic novella comes to life in this adaptation that is my next stop on the Sci-Fi Chronicles book. Vic (a very young Don Johnson) is wandering the post-apocalyptic world, accompanied by his dog, Blood (voiced by Tim McIntire), with whom he can communicate telepathically. Together they navigate the barbarity, the cruelty and…
