HBO, in conjunction with Cinemax, have done it again. Director Steven Soderbergh puts Clive Owen as Doctor John W. Thackery through his paces in this series created by Jack Amiel and Michael Begler. Now before you ponder the question of why, oh why, we would need yet another medical drama, take a look at the…

Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead (2014) – Kiah Roache-Turner
Available on blu-ray and DVD today from Anchor Bay is this fun, Australian, B-movie action-horror take on the zombie genre, which feels a little like Mad Max meets Romero, and is bloody as it is often funny. This time the zombies (who look like a cross between the traditional zombie, and the Deadites of Evil Dead) are…
The Newsroom – Season 3
I have two big problems with The Newsroom Season 3 that releases today from HBO on blu-ray and DVD. The first is that this is the last season. Boo to that! The second, is that it is only 6 episodes long. Not enough! That being said, Aaron Sorkin’s brilliant drama goes out on a…
Spring (2014) – Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead
Available today from Anchor Bay is this unique film from Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, their follow-up to the delightfully mind-bending Resolution. Available on DVD and Blu-Ray this is a gentle, and beautifully filmed concoction that marries the romance film with the monster movie. At the story’s heart is Evan (Lou Taylor Pucci), whose…
What We Do in the Shadows (2014) – Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi
Debuting today on VOD and iTunes with a blu-ray and DVD release next week on the 26, is this laugh-filled fang-fest from New Zealand. Shot as a documentary, the film follows a group of vampires around modern-day Wellington as they struggle with divvying up chores, keeping blood off the couch, sweeping up spinal cords, finding the…
The Missing (2014) – Season 1
Releasing today from Anchor Bay, on both DVD and Blu-Ray is the Starz/BBC co-pro miniseries, The Missing, starring James Nesbitt, Frances O’Connor, and Tcheky Karyo. Over eight episodes, beautifully presented in HD on blu-ray, with an incredibly sharp and clear image, the viewer is put through a taut, brutal, honest and emotional journey that…
Veep: Season 3
Also available from HBO today, is the third season of their critically acclaimed, and award-winning White House comedy series, Veep. Julia Loius-Drefus, who has won an Emmy for her performance in each season, is Vice President Selina Meyer. And considering my love of the Sorkin series The West Wing, I should have been watching…
Silicon Valley: Season 1
Releasing from HBO today is the premiere season of this brilliant comedy from Mike Judge, the creator of the cult classic, much-loved and oft-quoted, Office Space. The 8 episode first season is available today on DVD and Blu-Ray, just in time for the start of Season 2, which debuts April 12. You can honestly…
WolfCop (2014) – Lowell Dean
Get ready to howl, as the B-movie flick that caught everyone’s attention last year hits DVD today thanks to Anchor Bay! With its tongue planted so firmly in its cheek, it’s a wonder that the wolf can howl at all, this film heartily embraces and savages it Canadian and B-movie origins, while showcasing some fantastic…
