Some films stand the tests of time, eternally appealing. King Kong is one of those films. This is yet another of the titles listed in 101 Horror Movies, but honestly, I was simply just looking for an excuse to pull it out of my collection and give it another watch. While Peter Jackson remade it…

Sherlock S02E03 – The Reichenbach Fall
What would you do to save the most important people in your life? Would you commit suicide? Looks like Sherlock may find out… Somehow it’s already here… the season (not series!) finale of Sherlock. This one is a helluva romp! The episode sees the return of Jim Moriarty, cunningly played by Andrew Scott, who in…
Degrassi Junior High Season 2
Season 2 of Degrassi Junior High sees the second half of our kids first year in Grades 7 & 8 respectively. The stories and the characters are still resonate, and it’s so amazing to watch all these young people grow up before your eyes. Long before we were enchanted with Hogwarts Academy, we were…
The Island of Lost Souls (1932)
Charles Laughton takes on the role of Dr. Moreau in this version of the classic H.G. Wells tale. It is also, for me, probably the best adaptation of the subject matter that I have seen on the big screen. Laughton’s performance is gleeful, and he’s a lot of fun to watch. You can see the…
Bomb Girls: Episode 2 – Misfires
Like a Glenn Miller melody, the beats, story and emotions of this week’s Bomb Girls hits all of its notes. From tender heartfelt moments, to brassy outrage and staccato shocks this proudly Canadian show doesn’t miss a step in its stride across prime time and into our hearts. Spoilers abound below… This week’s episode begins…
The Old Dark House (1932)
This was a romp! Encased in gothic trappings, this film is one of the lighter ones that have been suggested to me by 101 Horror Movies. It’s not quite madcap, but I love a lot of the dialogue, in fact when it gets to this point, I think you can quite safely call it banter….
White Zombie (1932)
It’s a swing and a miss from 101 Horror Movies, this was the first film in their recommendations that just couldn’t hold my interest and attention, though there were a number of things I did like about it. Karloff is always enjoyable, and in a film like this there are lots of close-ups on his…
Sherlock S02E02 – The Hounds of Baskerville
Holmes, you’ve done it again! And that felicitation I extend to the entire cast and crew of this fantastic series. I settled into my comfy chair yesterday eve and dialed up the Beeb, knowing I would be delighted by yet another excursion with my favorite detective (well, there’s Magnum and Rockford too). The episode finds…
Contact (1997)
…”good to go”… “I’m good to go…” My throat tightens up every time that sequence is on-screen. It fills me with such hope and excitement for the possibility of contact. Contact is one of those movies that I won’t watch for extended periods of time, but then when I throw it on to watch, I…
Rumpelstiltskin Revelations!
Once Upon A Time was back last night, looking to pick up where it left off before the holidays. Taking place about 2 weeks after the death of our favourite Sheriff, Storybrooke finds itself in the hunt for a newone, and the audience finally gets a look into the past FairyTale life of the very mysterious Mr….
