The Expanse (2018) – Reload, and Triple Point

Reload was penned by Robin Veith and aired first on 2 May, 2018.

Lots of things are happening this time out. The Rocinante is flying on fumes, and against all of the crew’s better judgement, they realize the best place to stock up is in the debris of the battle between Earth and Martian forces.

As they gather ammunition, water and fuel, they also find a cadre of Martian soldiers (including Kelly McCormack) who after the reveal of Chrisjen (Shohreh Aghdashloo) being aboard the Roci agree to a plan that may help stop the war that Sadavir (Shawn Doyle) is continuing to help foment.

In fact, on Earth, Volovodov (Elizabeth Mitchell) is shocked to discover that a speech she has written for the Secretary-General (Jonathan Whittaker) has been updated by Sadavir and helps stoke the flames of violence between the two worlds.

But Chrisjen has the recording of Sadavir where he monologued his plans, ideas and threats, and is able to transmit it to Volovdov.

Holden (Steven Strait) is finally pushed into taking sides, which helps begin to mend the chasm that has formed between he and Naomi (Dominique Tipper) since her betrayal of giving the protomolecule to the OPA.

And speaking of the protomolecule, we are delivered a killer ending as Mao (Francois Chau), who seemed on the edge of redeeming himself thanks to the presence of Prax’s (Terry Chen) daughter Mei (Leah Madison Jung) gets pulled back into his obsession when he sees that human testing of the molecule has continued, and what it has done to Mei’s friend, Katoa (Jaeden Noel)… just WOW.

Finally, the Nauvoo, the Mormon ship not seen since about mid-season two is being recovered by Drummer (Cara Gee)…

So many things!! Such a fantastic series, damn.

Triple Point sees a lot of things coming to a tipping point. Written by Georgia Lee and first airing on 9 May, 2018, Holden, Naomi, Alex (Cas Anvar) and Amos (Wes Chatham) find themselves beginning to take sides in attempting to stem the growing conflict that is sweeping the system, and whose latest conflagration is taking place at Callisto.

As the Roci races to Io, ready to storm the hidden base there and hopefully rescue Mei, Chrisjen, after a conversation with the crew, is able to get her evidence against Sadavir into the hands of the Martian Navy (which includes Matthew Bennett), and hopefully to the UNN forces, and Admiral Souther (Martin Roach), but he’s been replaced by Nguyen (Byron Mann), but crew loyal to Souther (including Natalie Lisinska) attempt to take over the ship when they receive Chrisjen’s information.

This starts a shooting war among UNN forces, and the Martian Navy sits back to watch.

On Io, Mao is learning that Katoa is evolving, and keeps speaking about ‘the Work.’ The protomolecule is created for a long term plan, and its not going to be stopped.

As the Rocinante arrives on Io, and about to breach the base a series of launches take place, pods, sending hybrids out into the system.

Prax was this close to being reunited with his daughter, there’s the possibility to stop the war, and bring down those responsible, but humanity’s own blindness, greed, and desire for power keep getting in the way.

Things are really heating up in The Expanse!
