Beginning its Canadian theatrical run at the Lightbox, the Norway-Canadian co-production of Steinsbo’s directorial debut makes an impression. Featuring multi-layered characters set against the gorgeous backdrop of western Norway, Hevn is a revenge thriller that is tautly paced, strongly directed, and features some very nice performances from all the players. The film follows Andrea…

Batman: The Animated Series (1993) – Birds of a Feather, Robin’s Reckoning: Part II and Blind as a Bat
The Penguin (Paul Williams) is about to get his heart broken in Birds of a Feather. The story aired 8 February, 1983, and sees a young socialite, Veronica Vreeland (Marilu Henner) making eyes at the villain, not because she loves him, but because she’s using him to climb the social ladder. Oswald alias The…
The Proposition (2005) -John Hillcoat
The next recommendation following my screening of Night of the Hunter for the Great Movies – 100 Years of Film book is this Australian western that sees a lawman, Captain Stanley (Ray Winstone) apprehend notorious outlaw Charlie Burns (Guy Pearce) and offers him a deal, he has nine days to track down and kill…
Batman: The Animated Series (1992) – Heart of Steel: Part II, If You’re So Smart, Why Aren’t You Rich? and Joker’s Wild
This week’s trip to Gotham brings us part II of Heart of Steel, which aired on 17 November, 1992. Batman (Kevin Conroy) is trying to stop H.A.R.D.A.C. (Jeff Bennett) and gets some help from Miss Barbara Gordon (Melissa Gilbert). H.A.R.D.A.C. is solidifying its plans, and even assaults its creator, Rossum (William Sanderson), when the…
Game of Thrones: Season 5
All it takes is for me to hear the stirring opening theme by Ramin Djwadi, and I get very excited about returning to Westeros. Now, thanks to HBO, I can journey back there to that war-torn land, and binge-watch all of Season 5’s episodes, and get ready for the approach of Winter, and Season…
Riddick (2013) -David Twohy
So the Sci-Fi Chronicles books invited me to sit down and watch the latest (last?) installment in the Riddick series, and this one I cared for even less than Pitch Black, especially after the cool world building (flawed or not) that occurred in the second film. Once again, Twohy writes and directs, and Vin…
The Greatest American Hero (1982) – It’s All Downhill From Here and Dreams
Things are definitely starting to get goofy in The Greatest American Hero universe, it’s still wonderfully fun, but you can see that there are other people starting to mess with the formula… First up we have It’s All Downhill From Here, written by Patrick Hasburgh, which aired on the 3 March, 1982. Ralph (William…
Orphan Black S03E07 – Community of Dreadful Fear and Hate
Orphan Black continued its fantastic run last night on Space, giving us what may be the lightest episode to date, while still advancing the characters and storyline and ending with a painfully heartbreaking moment for Cosima (Tatiana Maslany). It’s a great episode that gives us almost time to catch our breath before plunging into the…
The Wild Beasts of Wuhan (2012) – Ian Hamilton
The Wild Beasts of Wuhan is the next novel in the Ava Lee series by Ian Hamilton, and once again, I am flying through this entire series. Very shortly I imagine I will be emailing everyone I can to beg and plead for the next book, after I’m during those that are currently published….
Avenged (2013) – Micheal S. Ojeda
Releasing from Anchor Bay today, was this supernatural revenge thriller, that surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. I thought it would be a little enjoyable, but I found myself really getting into this one. Zoe (the lovely Amanda Adrienne) is a deaf/mute girl on a road trip to spend some time with her…
