None of the posters designed to promote this film that I came across on IMDB do this film justice. Some hint at the strangeness that plays out in the later part of the film, and arguably spoil some of it. And the ones hinting at the missing and the mystery at the heart of it,…

Screaming and Conjuring (2025) – Clark Collis
Clark Collis delivers a fantastic look at the horror genre and its revitalization during the run of films from the game changing Scream in 1996 to the haunted house Conjuring of 2013. That seventeen years of cinema saw countless genre films released, and it documents its growth and evolution. Collis explores them all, the high-profile…
Tron: Ares (2025) – Joachim Ronning
I was there in 1982. I remember sitting in the Odeon in Kingston. It was me, my sister, and my father. It wasn’t my dad’s thing. I was gobsmacked by the idea of being able to go inside a computer, and live in this new world of video games, which, at the time, were just…
TIFF24: It Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This dir. Rachel Kempf and Nick Toti
It’s right there in the title, so if you aren’t into found footage films and the restraints (sometimes creatively solved) it puts on the horror subgenre, this may not be the one for you. I reality, Rachel, Nick and Christian are three good friends, and they’ve been making goofy horror movies together since they met,…
Fan Expo 2024 Day 2
Friday at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre was laid out before the exploring geek as an adventure of discovery and treasure-hunting. And it also served as a bracer for what was to come on Saturday, large crowds weaving along the pathways between booths, and the walkways that connected the North and South Building. I work…
The Movie Man (2024) – Matt Finlin
Cottage Country. That phrase conjures a specific image for residents of Ontario, Canada. The calls of loons, sitting on boat docks and enjoying the peace of the lakes, an escape from the hubbub of city life; cottage country is a Canadian summer tradition. You wouldn’t expect to find a multiplex amongst the forests, the bears,…
Star Trek: Lower Decks – Season 4 Blu-Ray
The U.S.S. Cerritos returns to the screen with Paramount Canada’s release of Star Trek: Lower Decks – Season 4 on Blu-ray. Filled with great stories, deep cuts of Trek trivia, and lots of laughs as well as answering the decades-old question, does Tom Paris (Robert Duncan McNeill) look like Nick Locarno? There are promotions, roommates,…
His Girl Friday (1940) – 4K Review
The first film in the Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection, Volume 4 is wonderful and fantastic, His Girl Friday, helmed by the incredible Howard Hawks, and starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell, I was very eager to dig into the film to see how the upgraded image looked, as well as the chance to…
Fan Expo 2023 – Day 1
It’s been a couple of years since I was last at Fan Expo. I had a brief appearance last year, hosting a panel for Dundurn Press (check out their booth this year, lots of great books to read!) and getting some gorgeous art for the living room wall. I was a little anxious about the…
Fan Expo 2019 – It’s Almost Time
It’s hard to believe that the summer is drawing to a close. Here in Toronto that means the CNE, more barbecues, more patio time, and for geeks of all walks of life and fandoms Fan Expo. Housed in the sprawling Metro Toronto Convention Centre, and occupying both North and South buildings, the Expo is always…
