None of the posters designed to promote this film that I came across on IMDB do this film justice. Some hint at the strangeness that plays out in the later part of the film, and arguably spoil some of it. And the ones hinting at the missing and the mystery at the heart of it, aren’t done very well. Sorry.
Shot like a documentary, the film has a couple of glaring errors, like the fact that the police would not be sharing information about an ongoing investigation.
A doc crew led by Kaiser Whitmire (Josefina Boneo) is digging into a missing persons case. Wayne Richie (Jeremy Childs) is trying to find his missing wife. He’s also the prime suspect in her disappearance.
The pair were spending some time on some abandoned farmland when she disappeared. But is he guilty?

When the doc crew discover more disappearances have taken place on that land over the decades, it raises questions about what is really going on here, and what families may be involved.
The film plays its strangeness card a little too early in the film, and once introduced, some of the narrative threads are never really followed up on. The Watchers?
The exploration of each new missing person is well-done, and there’s some very interesting narrative work and discoveries with each one, and each one brings more questions. I like the ideas at work here, and despite some holes in logic and police procedure, it’s done pretty well. It’s shot well and looks great.
There’s no big reveal; there’s just the depths of a mystery beginning to be explored, and possible but incredible theories that may be the truth. I think the strange and spooky stuff should have been pushed back into the second half of the film. Let it seem like a straightforward crime doc until that first strange reveal.
The film could be a little tighter narratively, but overall, I found the subject matter engaging, and there was no shaky-cam found-footage stuff where you wonder why people are still holding a camera.
Not a horrible film by any measure; it just needed a better poster, and perhaps a little shifting of some of the narrative around a bit, and not to have the police provide information on an ongoing case…
