This week, I dove into the second adventure of the Murry children first begun in the childhood classic (which I had never read) A Wrinkle in Time. I was curious to see where both characters and story would go as the adventure continues, so I devoured the book eagerly. This story feels both larger and…

Star Trek: The Next Generation (1988) – Coming of Age, and Heart of Glory
Captain’s log: stardate 41416.2 Coming of Age is a fairly solid episode. Written by Sandy Fries, this tale first screened on 14 March, 1988. Unlike his last outing, Wesley (Wil Wheaton) is much easier to empathise with and like in this episode. And again, lets be clear the dislike of Wesley had nothing to do…
Star Trek: The Next Generation (1988) – When the Bough Breaks and Home Soil
Captain’s log: stardate 41509.1 This duo of episodes is a tough one, it’s like they decided to put the worst two episodes together to make it that much harder to get through. When the Bough Breaks was written by Hannah Louise Shearer this episode first screened for audiences on 15 February, 1988. On the upside…
Ghost in the Shell (2017) – Rupert Sanders
Paramount Pictures’ live action adaptation of the classic anime, Ghost in the Shell, hits blu-ray and DVD today. I am going to eschew any discussion of the white-washing controversy surrounding the film’s production, and just focus on the movie itself. I love the original anime, and constantly saw it as kin to the cinematic version…
JFK (1991) – Oliver Stone
The final film in the What Else to Watch list of DK Canada’s The Movie Book, following my viewing of Battleship Potemkin is Oliver Stone’s three hour historical, and dramatic exploration of the Kennedy assassination in 1963. The film follows Jim Garrison’s (Kevin Costner) real-life investigation into the case, perhaps compiling the most comprehensive look…
The Untouchables (1987) – Brian De Palma
Brian De Palma directs from a David Mamet script which helped win Sean Connery an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. The Untouchables starring Kevin Costner and Robert De Niro is the next stop in What Else to Watch following my screening of Battleship Potemkin in The Movie Book from DK Canada. This was my first…
Predator 2 (1990) – Stephen Hopkins
Danny Glover, Gary Busey, Bill Paxton, Robert Davi, Maria Conchita Alonso and Ruben Blades are in the sights of an alien in Predator 2, the next stop as I close in on the end of the Sci-Fi Chronicles book. Following on the trail of the original 1987 film, Predator 2 is a bit of a…
Star Trek: The Original Series (1967) – Wolf in the Fold and The Trouble with Troubles
Captain’s log: stardate 3614.9 Wolf in the Fold first graced screens on 22 December, 1967. The episode was penned by Psycho’s Robert Bloch, and it’s obvious. This was one of the first episodes of television to scare me. I remember watching this story, and being completely freaked out by one scene but I was totally…
Star Trek: The Vulcan Academy Murders (1984) – Jean Lorrah
It’s been a while since I checked in with the non-canon universe of Star Trek, so I dived into the world of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy in this would-be murder mystery. Spock is preparing for some leave on his home planet of Vulcan. When an attack from a Klingon ship wounds one of the Enterprise’s…
Superman: The Animated Series (1997)- Prototype, The Late Mr. Kent, and Heavy Metal
The DC Animated Universe welcomes another staple from the comic world to Metropolis this week with the introduction of John Henry Irons (Micheal Dorn). Prototype first aired on 11 October, 1997. Irons is an inventor, but it seems that his new power suit, has made it’s pilot, Corey Mills (Xander Berkley) very unstable. The suit…
