I remember this movie vividly, and the fact that I came across the original novel as well, which was not neverending, but did in fact cover more than the events of the first film. Petersen made a fantastic film here, filled with wonder and emotion, I mean who can forget Artax in the Swamps…

Trailer Tracks: The Karate Kid (1984) – John G. Avildsen
Sweep the leg! This movie… just watching the trailer brings back so many memories… wow. I like this one and the second one, and then tuned out… watching Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio in this film, made me wish for a mentor like Mr. Miyagi… and of course, there’s Elisabeth Shue as well 🙂
Trailer Tracks: Conan The Barbarian (1982) – John Milius
My first introduction to Arnold Schwarzenegger was Terminator in 1984, but at that point, I was putting my parents’ video membership to good use, and coming home with 2 to 4 movies every weekend, and I finally got a look at this one. Co-starring James Earl Jones, Max Von Sydow, Mako and Sandahl Bergman, this…
Trailer Tracks: Romancing The Stone (1984) – Robert Zemeckis
I love this trailer, Danny DeVito sets up the story and the action in material shot just for the trailer… that’s cool! Starring Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and DeVito, this movie is still so much fun!
Trailer Tracks: The Last Starfighter (1984) – Nick Castle
Ahh, back when computer generated images were first starting out… I dearly love this movie, Lance Guest, Catherine Mary Stewart, the idea of being discovered for greatness out amongst the stars…
The Terminator (1984) – James Cameron
I do love a story that involves some temporal mechanics, and this one always pleases. Yes, T2 is arguably the better and stronger film, but you wouldn’t have T2 without this first film, which I was happy to revisit on the 101 Sci-Fi Movies list. Cameron did a lot of model work and visual effects for various science…
Nineteen Eight-Four (1984) – Michael Radford
Screen giants Richard Burton and John Hurt square off in this frightening adaptation of George Orwell’s classic novel. A novel which seems to have gotten more right, than it ever got wrong. The 101 Sci-Fi Movies brought this one to me, and it was amazing how close to modern-day society this film could be viewed…
The Brother From Another Planet (1984) – John Sayles
The 101 Sci-Fi Movies list brought me this one that I had never seen before, and it works because of one simple fact. Joe Morton is awesome. Always has been, always will. The story, written and directed by John Sayles, follows the adventures of an unnamed alien, simply referred to as Brother (Joe Morton), who crashes off…
Repo Man (1984) – Alex Cox
Odd. Awesome. Punk. And oh-so-quotable. This entry on the 101 Sci-Fi Movies list was my first introduction to the punk when I was growing up. I remember watching this one with my friend Sean, his family always seemed to be more willing to rent the odd, kind of fringe movies that my parents would never…
V – 30 Years On
The Visitors arrived 30 years ago this week. Kenneth Johnson’s aliens who came to earth posing as our friends while hiding not only a horrible appearance but an equally terrifying agenda premiered with the original mini-series V. The sad thing is, I wasn’t allowed to stay up and watch all of it, and we certainly…
