The Movie Book from DK Canada continues to entertain, and it’s next big recommendation was Toy Story, which I’ve previously covered off, but I was delighted to see that on the What Else To Watch list there were other Pixar films that were primed for a re-watch. So I threw in the blu-ray and settled…

Teenage Zombies (1959) – Jerry Warren
Sometimes bad is so bad that it comes around to being good again, or at least unintentionally funny and enjoyable, and for me that is where the next title in DK Canada’s very enjoyable Monsters in the Movies book falls. This one is just so laughably absurd, trying to marry the teen bopper genre to…
War of the Worlds (1989) – Doomsday, and Terminal Rock
The increasingly dark war for the planet continues this week, as Team Blackwood, and the entire planet suffer from a heat wave, and the aliens have cut off the water supply! Doomsday was written by Tony Di Franco and first aired on 16 October, 1989. The morthren, specifically Mana (Catherine Disher) discovers the bible, and…
Revenge of the Zombies (1943) – Steve Sekely
Not all zombie movies are going to be winners, and I realize that as I continue to explore the dark recesses of DK Canada’s Monsters in the Movies book, and its chapter on zombies. This feature from 1943 is too short (and still feels too long) and doesn’t have a lot going for it, despite…
Star Trek: Voyager (1998) – Retrospect, and The Killing Game
Captain’s log: stardate 51658.2 Bryan Fuller and Lisa Klink pen this Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) episode that came from a story by Andrew Shepard Price and Mark Gaberman. It first aired on 25 February, 1998. The Voyager is looking to upgrade some of its weapon systems as it continues through Hirogen space, and they…
Miami Vice (1989) – Jack of All Trades, and The Cell Within
The streets of Miami aren’t going to police themselves so for a few more weeks, I’ll be riding with Sonny Crockett (Don Johnson) and Ricardo Tubbs (Philip Micheal Thomas) as they work their last few cases. Jack of All Trades was written by Ken Solarz from a story by Robert Ward. It first aired on…
Disney Pixar Character Encyclopedia: New Edition (2019) – Steve Bynghall,Jo Casey, Glenn Dokin, Clare Hibbert, Julia March, Helen Murray, and Catherine Saunders
DK Canda has a knack for creating beautiful coffee table books, whether they are aimed at younger readers, or older fans. Their works are always filled with details and brilliant pictures and illustrations. Their new edition of the Disney Pixar Character Encyclopedia continues this trend. Broken into sections that guide us through each franchise and…
Christine (1983) – Stephen King
This week, I dug into a Stephen King classic that I hadn’t read for over thirty years. In fact it was definitely in the first half dozen King novels that I read when I first discovered him in my teens. It’s amazing how much of it I forgot, and how much of it got blurred…
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1998) – Honor Among Thieves, and Change of Heart
Station log: stardate unknown Rene Echevarria pens this O’Brien (Colm Meaney) episode from a story by Philip Kim. It first aired on 25 February, 1998. O’Brien is recruited by Starfleet Intelligence to infiltrate an Orion Syndicate one of the largest criminal organizations in the Alpha Quadrant, and is required to befriend the man he is…
