It’s been forever since I explored more of Whitley Strieber’s journey. His abductions, and encounters with Visitors. Breakthrough is the third non-fiction book in his documentation of the unusual and powerful encounters with a strange type of intelligence.
This time out, he documents his attempt to move forward with his communion with these beings. He also works to confront his fear at encountering something completely unknown and… alien… to the human experience.
He is able to relate incidents that not only involve himself but others as well, and it’s documented. Strieber points out that if his case wasn’t involving alleged aliens, but something more… earth-bound, he would be believed. The evidence is overwhelming. But because it’s so far outside our understanding, he is scoffed at, ridiculed, and finds himself under some watchful eyes.
Over the course of the text, he relates and expounds on his earlier events, connections to things that happened after the second book Transformation was released, as well as this one. Things that couldn’t be known by others until after the book was released.
He also explores the way the government has worked at hiding things, keeping evidence suppressed, pursuing a disinformation campaign, and repressing the truth. Or at least that’s what seems to be happening.
And it’s wild, he posits about those keeping the secret, and the idea that the reveal of these beings could shake us to the core. But with the things that have been disclosed recently (I’m not entirely convinced that some of it isn’t disinformation) no one even seems phased by it. We just seem to be taking every new reveal in stride. But does that mean we’re ready for whatever, whoever, Strieber is in communion with?
I like the way Strieber writes. He is an ordinary man trying to explore extraordinary circumstances, and their connection to the larger universe. He struggles with fears, doubts and more. He is challenged, and challenges himself, and the reader to understand what is going on.
Something is happening to Strieber, and others around the globe, we are journeying into a dark country that could be as uplifting as it can be frightening. And I’m not going to lie, and I’m sure I mentioned this in the other Strieber books I’ve written about, I know the idea is frightening, but I would like to encounter these beings. Imagine what we could learn from them, and they us, and what they mean in terms of what else may be out there in the infinite universe.
I’ll be exploring more of Strieber’s journey and wondering what it means for humanity.
