Stargate: Universe (2009) – Life, and Justice

Carl Binder wrote Life, which debuted on 20 November, 2009 and has the crew discovering something new aboard the Destiny, a neural interface, i.e. a very familiar looking chair.

Rush (Robert Carlyle) has discovered a planet in the database with naquadria.

The crew continue using the stones to visit home, where discoveries are made. Scott (Brian J. Smith) discovers that he’s fathered a child, and Telford (Lou Diamond Phillips) is continuing to see Young’s (Louis Ferreira) wife, Emily (Ona Grauer) – something Scott sees in Telford’s memories when he uses Telford’s body on Earth.

The crew are having a tough time and need a bit of a morale boost. TJ (Alaina Huffman) is having a tough time, as the ship’s med tech, as she conducts interviews and reviews with everyone.

And of course, Eli (David Blue) is secretly investigating Rush.

And that planet? It’s a year away. If they can reach it, if they can get the master codes from the chair (without using it) if they can maneuver the ship, if they can use the naquadria, and dial a planetary stargate… they could get home. There’s a bit of hope spreading. And maybe that’s why Rush made the whole thing up.

We also get Reiko Aylesworth (an actor I always delight in seeing) showing up as Camile’s (Ming-Na Wen) partner, whom she gets to visit.

This one seems to be more about character exploration and their arcs moving forward as opposed to the series overall narrative arc.

We see that life goes on, for the people on the Destiny, and those they left behind. It’s intentionally a downer episode, digging into the characters to show how the situation is wearing on them.

Justice was written by Alan McCullough and it debuted on 4 December, 2009.

Spencer (Josh Blacker) has been angry and tense over the ongoing situation of being stuck on Destiny with no real hope. And now… he’s dead. Murdered?

And in a room-to-room search, Scott discovers the murder weapon in Young’s quarters. Young asks Chloe (Elyse Levesque) to represent him at a hearing. The military arm of the crew is not only convinced of Young’s innocence, but are also willing to back him up with force. Young argues for cooler heads to prevail.

But how will things play out?

Through it all, Rush and his team continue their research into the chair. And one of his team attempts to use it with disastrous results.

When Eli is able to find conclusive evidence of what really happened. Spencer killed himself. But what happened to the gun?

Julia Benson makes an appearance as Lt. James who is leading a SG team to a nearby planet, where they discover a long-deserted alien ship. And it is there that Young and Rush have a confrontation over why Rush framed him. It was an attempt to get Young to step away from command.

Actual fisticuffs ensue, and we see how much the pair don’t like one another. And the Destiny leaves just as Young makes it through the gate, leaving Rush behind.

Oh boy.
