Clark (Tom Welling) is still without his powers, so what good will he be, when a computer whiz, Gabriel (Johnny Lewis) decides to program a missile to take out Smallville and all its meteor freaks. Things are complicated by the fact that Chloe (Allison Mack) is kidnapped by Gabriel, and Clark gets shot!

It’s also a ticking clock episode, with an hour on the clock!

Meanwhile, Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) is questioning Lana (Kristin Kreuk) about the spaceship she saw during the meteor shower. Which he wants to use to understand, open and exploit that very same ship, which he has held in one of his labs. He even goes to confront Lionel (John Glover) about it.

While Clark is in the hospital, Chloe remains trapped by Gabriel. But something happens to Clark… he dies on the table… and whatever has possessed Lionel triggers and he races to Clark’s side with superhuman speed.

From there, Clark wakes in the Fortress of Solitude, with Lionel there! Lionel reveals that he’s been possessed by Jor-El. He reveals that his powers are being restored, but it will cost the life of someone close to him.

And Clark is able to stop the missile, but what will the cost be for Clark to have his powers returned?

And Lionel goes to see Lex with no memory of anything that has happened in weeks, since he started carving Kryptonian imagery. And Lana tries to prove, once again to Lex, that Clark is only human… but he just came back from the dead.

And I love that after the opening credits we see Clark and Lana waking up next to each other, after finally consumating their relationship. And now that Clark has his powers back, what does that mean for him and Lana, and keeping secrets again?

I’m glad that they didn’t keep Clark without his powers for too long. That would have been rough, but now, Clark, and the audience have to worry about who’s going to die. It has to be Jonathan (John Schneider).

Aqua introduces us to this iteration of Arthur Curry (Alan Ritchson), better known as Aquaman!

First airing on 20 October, 2005 it was written by Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer.

Arthur seems to have some extraordinary underwater abilities and has come to Smallville to attempt to stop LuthorCorp’s work on a sonar weapon.

Lois (Erica Durance) is back in town, and I’m sorry, but her first scene is in a bikini, and I found it hard to concentrate. Sorry. But she seems to have the same effect on Arthur, who, after rescuing her, keeps showing up to flirt with her.

Meanwhile, Clark meets Dr. Milton Fine (James Marsters), but we know he’s something more. He came out of the Kryptonian ship as some sort of liquid… We’ll learn to know him by another name… Braniac. And he seems to know lots about Lex and the weapon he’s developing.

I don’t want to sound mean. I like Ritchson, a lot, I love his take on Reacher, but despite being really built in this episode, it’s obvious he hadn’t quite grown into his looks yet.

So we’ve had two future Justice League members show up on Smallville, but Clark isn’t sure how he feels about Arthur to start with, and Arthur’s actions make it tough for him to like. It could be argued he’s a bit of an eco-terrorist, but in this case he is doing the right thing, so I’m sure Clark will come around.

We also see that there are some serious cracks in the Clark/Lex friendship. And tthe episode ends with Clark forming an alliance with Fine, because Fine claims he’s working on a book to expose Lex.
