Stargate SG-1 (2007) – Bounty, and Bad Guys

Bounty feels like a bit of a romp, a last fun adventure before the series makes its run to its finale. Directed by Peter DeLuise, it was written by Damian Kindler with excerpts by Robert C. Cooper and Ronald Wilkerson, this episode was first broadcast on 11 May, 2007.

SG-1 has been getting under the goa’uld Netan’s (Eric Steinberg) skin by blowing up a number of his ships. So he puts a bounty on them. Landry (Beau Bridges) authorizes a step away from Stargate Command for awhile, but that sill makes them targets.

Daniel (Michael Shanks) heads to the library to do research, Carter (Amanda Tapping) goes on a lecture tour with Dr. Lee (Bill Dow), Teal’c (Christopher Judge) rejoins the Jaffa, and Vala (Claudia Black) accompanies Mitchell (Ben Browder) to his high school reunion.

There’s a lot of fun to be had in this episode. There’s comedy to be mined, character moments, and it’s a lot of fun to see characters in social situations that get mucked up because of their occupation. And, of course, it’s all going to come down to a showdown with the bounty hunters at the high shool gym.

Because why wouldn’t it?

It’s just a delightful, fun and goofy romp, that reminds us that with all the other things going on in the Stargate Universe, the show can still be a lot of fun, and the cast can have fun doing it. This is just the kind of rest before the final plunge that series needs.

Bad Guys gives us another light and funny episode – let’s get it out of our system now before we wrap everything up.

First airing on 18 May, 2007, it was written by Martin Gero from a story he developed with Ben Browder. DeLuise directs this episode as well.

Mitchell, Daniel, Vala and Teal’c are running down a lead and when they pass through the gate, they initially believe they are in a pyramid. But nope, they are in a museum, and the dial home device is a replica – they have no way home.

And there seems to be a high-profile donor party going on, which includes guest star Josh Malina!

The team are mistakenly identified as rebels before they can get out, intending to avoid a first contact situation, and to buy time… they take the party hostage. Can they keep up the facade, and keep everyone safe until the SGC dials the gate when SG-1 misses its check-in?

There’s a lot of goofy fun, as Daniel attempts to be a villain as he ‘negotiates’ with Quartis (Ron Canada). There’s also a John McClane-wannabe running around the museum in the form of Jayem Seran (Alistair Abell). Cicero (Malina) is akin to Daniel, he believes the gate is a portal to other worlds but no one believes him.

Damn enjoyable.

Alright, break’s over, let’s get ready for the Ori!
