Sue and I returned to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre today to continue our exploration of fandoms and all things geekery. There were plenty of great moments, cosplayers and merchandise to tickle your geek needs.
There were a number of fun panels today, Catherine Tate, Bill Shatner, Bob Gale and Mary Steenburgen but we started the day with an outstanding Smallville Reunion panel – Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, Kristin Kreuk, Erica Durance and Laura Vandervoort.

It was delightful just watching the beloved cast get back together and pal around together. There was not only a real sense of fun about the cast but the chemistry is still going strong to twenty-five years after the series premiere.
Shatner took the stage after regaling the audience with fun stories and reminiscences. Not that far away, his T.J. Hooker co-star Heather Locklear shares tales of working as a woman in an 80s and 90s television world – boldly insightful.

Wandering the floors afterward a couple of exciting purchases were made – there is something to be said for coming across an item that triggers nostalgia and joy just from its appearance.
Saturday tends to be the busiest day of the Expo and this year was no different. So many folks were on site just for the day hoping to capture that one moment of fandom they had come to get. It’s something to see the costumes and the families and the excitement passing over a fan’s face as they see a beloved cast member, a sought after collectible or someone dressed in a similar costume.

I continued to geek out over all the Back to the Future love. And if you haven’t swung by the official Fan Expo merchandise booths make like a leaf and do it – there’s a lot of cool stuff to pick up.
Hopefully you didn’t miss Ewan McGregor! Obi-wan was on site today and was a huge draw for Star Wars fans, and you know the 501st looked after him. I wonder if he needed to do any geek shopping? I like the idea of actors who have had action figures made of themselves collecting them. Not out of some kind of ego trip, but just because how cool is it to have an action figure of yourself?

If I had all manner of disposable income, I would have gone to town on so many things, just to have them. There is so many great things to be found in Artist Alley, fantastic interpretations of beloved characters, movies, and television series (both live action and anime). And oh the collectibles! There are so many things out there. I keep toying with the idea of card collecting again, I think my time with comics has passed, but cards… man that brings me back to my youth.
And the action figures, statues and more… My entire apartment would be covered in them. So I hope all the fans out there were able to go home with one thing they really wanted to find this Fan Expo. I hope you, like me, found a great moment to be had with an Expo guest, a cosplayer, or some piece of fandom.
There’s one more day tomorrow, and I can’t wait to see how things are wrapped for Sue and I – and that’s just fun to be working with Sue again covering one of our all-time enjoyable events…
And finally it’s not a Fan Expo visit unless I get a visit in with my favourite Artoo unit.
