Stargate SG-1 (2000) – Upgrades, and Crossroads

When the Tok’ra send Anise (Vanessa Angel) to Earth to test some alien tech, Fraiser (Teryl Rothery) and Hammond (Don S. Davis) are nervous about the effects on the test subjects, SG-1.

Written by David Rich, this episode first debuted on 14 July, 2000.

Teal’c (Christopher Judge) is unable to take part because of his symbiote. O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson), Carter (Amanda Tapping) and Daniel (Michael Shanks) all have increased speed, strength and abilities. Unfortunately, the devices seem to have a bit of an addictive aspect to them, as well as making some very rash decisions.

If Fraiser can’t find a way to get the devices off, the team may die.

Hammond has a dangerous mission that Teal’c may have to handle alone, but SG-1 is going to violate some orders to pull off the assignment. Unfortunately, as they execute the plan, the team begins to develop antibodies to the virus caused by the armbands carrying the technology.

Will they be able to escape a heavily guarded Goa’uld stronghold?

It’s a fun, fast-paced tale that has some wonderful comedic moments as well as great character bits. The entire cast seems to be having a wonderful time, and it shows how far the series and the characters have come that it can be funny and still faithful to the heart of the show.

Wonderfully enjoyable, and Vanessa Angel is always a stunning watch on screen. And if memory serves we’ll get to see her again. That should be fun.

Hey look! There’s Anise again already!

Crossroads was written by Katharyn Powers and debuted on 21 July, 2000.

When Shan’auc (Musetta Vander) arrives at Stargate Command, it’s revealed that she’s an old love of Teal’c’s and she comes promising information that could destroy the Goa’uld, if they will take her to the Tok’ra.

Is she telling the truth? Shan’auc says she’s found a way to commune with her symbiote, but is the Goa’uld within her simply exploiting a possible advantage?

Teal’c has visions of his father, shared by his own symbiote. Do they mean what he thinks they do?

Anise and the Tok’ra agree to confer with the Shan’auc, but O’Neill is suspicious. Is the Goa’uld up to something? Is there a long game here? After Shan’auc is murdered by Tanith (Peter Wingfield) who now houses her mature symbiote, Teal’c is determined to exact revenge. But Anise reveals that they are aware of the Goa’uld’s plan, and will feed false information to the Goa’uld that now resides in Tanith.

The Tok’ra are playing a long game… and aren’t afraid of letting their allies get hurt along the way. Season four is off to a helluva start, and one of my all-time favorite episodes is coming up next time.
