Magnum P.I. (2021) – The Day Danger Walked In, and Tell No One

A hurricane is going to hit the island, and La Mariana’s hurricane insurance policy has lapsed, as Rick (Zachary Knighton) had other expenses through COVID. But things are going to get way more complicated before the storm is over.

The Day Danger Walked In was written by showrunners Peter M. Lenkov and Eric Guggenheim, and debuted on 15 January, 2021.

Everyone gets locked down in La Mariana, Magnum (Jay Hernandez), Higgins (Perdita Weeks), T.C. (Stephen Hill), Kumu (Amy Hill), Dr. Ethan (Jay Ali), Shammy (Christopher Thornton), and Booky (Roger E. Mosley). And while the characters explore their connections, and whether anyone (read as Magnum) except for Higgins likes Ethan, a pair of armed killers show up.

Before that happens the group has some fun playing pool, singing karaoke and letting themselves be distracted from the worries of the storm. The respite doesn’t last long and gets violent pretty quick, and Ethan gets shot!

The group is together though, and they’ll be able to work together to stop the killers, who were heisting an armoured truck. And maybe La Mariana will survive the storm intact, and perhaps not kill Rick’s dreams, or at least not ruin his friendship and partnership with T.C. over the insurance. All they have to do is hold out until Katsumoto (Tim Kang) arrives with the HPD, but you know Thomas Magnum is not going to sit around and wait to be rescued.

The continuity threads of the season are touched on, the blossoming romance between Ethan and Higgins, the Range Rover stalker, and all the character beats that establish continuity and relationships.

Tell No One first aired on 22 January, 2021. It was written by Gene Hong.

Kumu is worried about her late husband’s daughter Maleah’s (Janel Parrish) new beau, she thinks he’s up to no good, and while La Mariana recovers from the hurricane, and Rick and T.C. are trying to pay their bills, Higgins and Magnum take a case of a missing wife.

Colin Braggs (Jay Karnes) wants the help of the private investigators to help him find his wife, who seems to have disappeared after a meeting with her hairstylist. But as the pair investigate they discover that Coiln’s brother, Frank (Jon Curry) may have been involved. And when they find the missing woman dead, before the first ransom message was even sent.

What’s really going on here? The pair will figure it out.

A solid episode, one that seems to not mention Doctor Ethan much, or the Range Rover stalker, but has an interesting case and I continue to enjoy the character interactions.

I continue my exploration of the show next week when I dig into more of Magnum P.I. – The Complete Series on DVD which is available now from Paramount Canada. Aloha!
