Chuck (2011) – Versus the Cat Squad, and Versus the Masquerade

In a bit of a nod to Charlie’s Angels, we get a look at Sarah’s(Yvonne Strahovski) past as Chuck (Zachary Levi) reaches out to Sarah’s old team, the CAT Squad, so she has people there for her engagement party.

Written by Nicholas Wootton, this episode debuted on 14 February, 2011. Carina (Mini Anden) returns with the rest of the team, Amy (Mircea Monroe), and Zondra (Mercedes Mason) to take Sarah out to celebrate.

The return of Carina causes Morgan (Joshua Gomez) a little anxiety because of their history, and the fact that he’s involved now with Alex (Mekenna Melvin). Not to mention that not all of the CAT Squad trusts the others.

But problems come along not just for Morgan, but for Chuck and Sarah as well. When a bomb that takes out Carina’s car, Chuck flashes on the components, and makes the connection that the bomb was set by Augusto Gaez (Lou Diamond Philips), who was there last mission, and they think this may be a move to draw them out to catch him…

Which now they head out on, with Chuck and his team… but Gaez is reaching out to the CAT Squad for a different reason. But Sarah simply wants to flush out the mole in the group and leave the past in the past.

And will Morgan be able to tell Alex he loves her or will Carina screw that up for him?

It’s a fun episode, and Philips is a lot of fun as a baddie.

Chuck Versus the Masquerade was written by Rafe Judkins and Lauren LeFranc, and first debuted on 21 February, 2011.

Chuck and Sarah have to cancel their Valentine’s Day plans when they get sent to England on a mission as part of a protection detail, while someone else is attempting to hunt down the key to Volkoff’s database.

And it’s going to lead them, well, Boris (David S. Lee) right to… Vivian Volkoff (Lauren Cohan) and this causes some interesting drama for all the characters involved as Vivian may be nothing like her father, but may become him…

On the homefront Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) are completely done in looking after baby Clara (age 3 months) and they can’t remember the last time they slept the night through, or had any time to themselves.

They find some help in an unusual corner of the BuyMore, and finally get some rest… but may go insane anyway.

As both Chuck and Morgan now have relationships, they both think about breaking up the band, and moving out so that Chuck and Sarah can have the place, and Morgan and Alex can find their own.

But it’s still to early in the game, despite the fact that the wedding date is getting closer and closer.

More spycraft, laughs, and romance next week, doused in pop culture references, of course, as season four of Chuck continues.
