Ultimate Star War: New Edition (2019) – Adam Bray, Cole Horton, Patricia Barr, Ryder Windham, and Matt Jones

A journey’s end is on the horizon, as the final installment of the Skywalker Saga comes to theaters this holiday season with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. I get wonderfully nostalgic with every Star Wars film, and I can reconnect with the inner six year old who first had his little, but expanding, mind blown in 1977, when I first saw Star Wars.

These films, this saga, the comic books, the music, the toys, have been such a part of my life, that they seem completely entangled with the very fabric of my life. You can’t have one without the other.

And I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way.

I remember discovering with wonder, and amazement each new character, learning their name, where they were from, what they meant to our heroes and how they connected with that galaxy far, far away.

And now with the eleventh theatrical film on the horizon the universe has expanded to include not only new canon comics, but television series as well, that’s a lot of names, locations, ships, weapons and moments to recall.

Don’t worry, DK Canada has you covered.

Their new edition of Ultimate Star Wars, with a foreword by Anthony Daniels, takes us to every corner of the galaxy, guiding us through the Star Wars universe chronologically, introducing us to characters major and minor, planets and locations, and all the amazing technology, so many of which I wish I had personally.

The glossy pages make the images pop off the page, and once again puts me in the mind of my youth when the pride of my constantly growing collection was my Topps’s Star Wars cards, I would shuffle through them, each new pack carrying that cardboard stick of gum, and that wonderful scent, and slip through them (got it, need it, got it, need it, need it).

The images put me in mind of that, and having them all bound in one book, filled with tons of information from the common to the obscure makes this a fantastic celebration of all things Skywalker and company.

The depth of knowledge is shown in the sheer size of the book, it’s big, it’s heavy, and a joy to leaf through each page, reveling in the magic of a realm that not only influenced my youth, but still is a major part of my life today. This book, like so many of DK Books Star Wars books, is a must for collectors, and is a celebration of what we love, what has come before, and what to expect (The Rise of Skywalker is hinted at in a couple of the entries).

A beautifully assembled book that ignites the imagination, and shares everything we love about that galaxy far, far away.

I love this edition, and you will too. And remember, the Force will be with you…
