Thomas Magnum (Tom Selleck) has a lot of fun this week, and I, as always, was happy to go along for the ride.

First up, we have All Roads Lead to Floyd, which aired 12 March, 1981, and featured Rockford Files’ Noah Beery Jr. as the titular Floyd. Babs Grehosky wrote the teleplay alongside Rogers Turrentine, who also came up with the original story.

Thomas is hired by Cindy Llewellyn (Anne Bloom) to find her father, Floyd. All she has to go on is a post card from Oahu. Tom is a little anxious at first, especially arriving to pick her up at the airport after having just been in an accident which left the back bumper of the Ferrari in a bit of a wreck.

He finally relents, and digs into the case, and begins to track Floyd across the island, from job to job, from angry employer to angry employer, but during a pyramid party, Thomas learns he’s not the only one looking, the rather violent Clarence Burnside (Andy Romano) is looking for him as well.

It’s fun to see Noah in this role, he’s more than a bit of a con man, and he’s a bit of a heel, as we learn when Tom and Cindy finally catch up with him. This guy was playing all the angles, and didn’t seem to mind who got in the way, as long as it wasn’t him.

There were some really fun moments with Tom and T.C. (Roger E. Mosley) in this one, it seems their relationship is stronger for their experiences in the previous episodes. Higgins (John Hillerman) almost gets the Ferrari away from Tom once and for all as well…

The second episode, Adelaide, is very funny, and gently romantic. It aired originally on 19 March, 1981 and was penned by Robert Hamilton.

Thomas is hired by Adelaide (Christine Belford), a pleasant, but shy, virginal woman for protection. What she doesn’t initially tell him, and something that Rick (Larry Manetti), T.C. and Higgins take great delight in needling him about throughout the episode, is that he’s actually been hired to protect a prize show horse named Norman.

And it’s a good thing she did, as it seems a couple of black hats (in some cases literally) are looking to steal Norman before he can win the competition he’s entered in, or be sold for a fortune.

Tom does his able best to help out, and his inner monologue stuff this time around, as well as his breaking of the fourth wall is perfect.

He also gets Rick and T.C. to help him at the show, after they show up, properly attired of course.

The episode gets its romance from the fact that Adelaide is quite taken with Thomas, who is always a proper gentleman with her, and she’s hoping that perhaps finally, she’s met the man she’s been saving herself for. This storyline is handled very nicely, and culminates at a volleyball tournament for the King Kamehameha Club that Higgins is determined Tom shouldn’t win, seeing as he isn’t a member, but a guest.

Man I love this show!
