Predators takes us back to the jungle with a varied cast as I continue my adventures with the dangerous alien in my journey through the Sci-Fi Chronicles book. Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne, Danny Trejo, Alice Braga, and Topher Grace are among an elite group of killers who are abducted and dropped into a jungle. As…

Doctor Who (Christopher Eccleston David Tennant) – The Parting of the Ways and The Christmas Invasion
The first series of the relaunched BBC series, Doctor Who , comes to a close this week with The Parting of the Ways. Written by Russell T. Davies and with an original airdate of 18 June, 2005 the episode saw the Doctor (Eccleston) confronting the Dalek fleet with Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) at his…
Star Trek: The Original Series (1968) – Return to Tomorrow and Patterns of Force
Captain’s log: stardate 4768.3 Return to Tomorrow is one of those episodes that never really seem to hold my attention. Written by John T. Dugan, this story first aired on 9 February, 1968. The one thing is does have is Kirk’s (William Shatner) awesome “Risk is our business” speech. It has become iconic and emblematic…
Virus (1999) – John Bruno
Gale Anne Hurd serves as the producer on my next stop in the Sci-Fi Chronicles, 1999’s Virus. Once again, the film is packed with a fairly solid cast, Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Sutherland, William Baldwin, Joanna Pacula, and Marshall Bell, and once again, most of it is poorly executed. Based on the Dark Horse Comic…
Doctor Who (Christopher Eccleston) – The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances
The Empty Child written by Steven Moffat introduces two things to the new series of Doctor Who that helped define it. Airing on 21 May, 2005, it made children in gas masks scary, especially if they ask “Are you my mummy?” and brought in a new character that made a huge impact, Captain Jack Harkness…
Tremors (1990) – Ron Underwood
The work of producer Gale Anne Hurd is my next port of call in the Sci-Fi Chronicles book, I’ve previously covered her work with James Cameron, so that left some of her other films to take a look at, and I loved that I got to start with Tremors. This fun, creature feature that hearkens…
Doctor Who (Christoper Eccleston) – The Long Game and Father’s Day
The Doctor (Eccleston), Rose (Billie Piper) and Adam (Bruno Langley) travel to the far flung future, to Satellite 5, orbiting the Earth, only to find something has gone dreadfully wrong with future history. The Long Game was written by Russell T. Davies and first aired on 7 May, 2005. The Doctor is sure something has…
Star Trek: Voyager – The Complete Series
Getting a re-release from Paramount Pictures today, in a fantastic new slipcase package, Star Trek: Voyager – The Complete Series comes home. Premiering in January of 1995, half way through the third season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and half a year following the conclusion of The Next Generation, the series got away from…
Doctor Who (Christopher Eccleston) – World War Three and Dalek
The Doctor (Eccleston) and Rose (Billie Piper) alongside Mickey (Noel Clarke), Harriet Jones (Penelope Wilton) and Rose’s mother, Jackie (Camille Coduri) take on the Slitheen in the conclusion to last week’s episode, Aliens of London. World War Three was written by Russell T. Davies and had an original airdate of 23 April, 2005. The episode…
Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) – Micheal Bay
Somehow these movies keep getting made, and even more confusing is how Michael Bay remains at their helm. This for now, is the last stop with the Transformers in the Sci-Fi Chronicles book. I do like the continuity that runs through the series. After the battle of Chicago in the last film, the alliance between…
