The Eye of Jupiter was the last episode broadcast in 2006, first airing on 15 December. It was written by Mark Verheiden.

The Galactica and the fleet having survived the passage is harvesting the algae (full of protein) on the planet they’ve reached to replenish their dwindling food stores.

Apollo (Jamie Bamber) and Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) are deep in an affair, with failing marriages on both sides. But Starbuck isn’t keen on getting a divorce because of her religious views. Will that cause problems between them?

Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) seems to be hearing things as he heads the algae harvesting. It leads him right to a cave. Not a cave, a temple? left behind by the Thirteenth Tribe, The Temple. What will this discovery mean? What secrets will they uncover?

Baby Hera and Baltar (James Callis) are still aboard the basestar as D’anna (Lucy Lawless) continues her pursuit of the identities of the Final Five. Another Five? Are they connected?

Before any of this can be explored four basestars jump on top of the planet, and the fleet has to leap away. Galactica and the harvesters remain, and a communication is established! Tensions are high as a meeting is set with Baltar, a D’anna, and a Cavil (Dean Stockwell).

Athena (Grace Park) learns that Hera is still alive.

The Cylons want a relic from the temple, The Eye of Jupiter, will Starbuck, Apollo and all those still on the surface be able to stop them? That includes Anders (Michael Trucco), Starbuck’s estranged husband.

The Colonial plan blow up the temple to keep the relic from falling in to Cylon hands. But is it going to be that easy? Starbuck gets shot down, and may not be able to be rescued while the ground forces prepare for assault.

There’s a lot going on character and narrative-wise in this episode. The episode races towards a To Be Continued as Adama (Edward James Olmos) authorizes the release of nuclear weapons to nuke the planet while Tyrol tries to figure out the temple, and Anders and Apollo fight over about going after Starbuck.

Rapture picked up the story on 21 January, 2007. It was written by David Weddle and Bradley Thompson.

As the Galactica prepares to launch nukes, the Cylons attack, and Tyrol attempts to decipher the markings in the temple and find the Eye of Jupiter, which may contain a map to Earth.

Starbuck’s crash site is close to Dualla’s (Kandyse McClure) observation post. Apollo asks his wife to recover her, braving Cylon fire to do it. When Starbuck and Dualla meet, there are sparks between the two, but Starbuck reveals that Apollo won’t cheat, and Starbuck won’t divorce. She hats and loves both men in her life, and it is ruining her, and those she cares about.

Athena, on the Galactica asks Helo (Tahmoh Penikett) to kill her so that she can resurrect on the Cylon ship and find their daughter, Hera. Can she convince of this, and will it work out the way they want it to? There are confrontations and trouble everywhere, and it’s a but of a shocker how things play out.

D’anna is determined to learn the truth of the Final Five and she and Baltar head to the planet in a single ship. But is she the one to see the faces of the Five? And will we see any faces we know?

The episode ends with the star going supernova, revealing that it is the Eye of Jupiter, Tyrol captures Baltar, Athena returns with Hera, and Starbuck and Apollo reunited with the people their married with, love and apart from those they are meant to be with.

The fleet has a new direction, and a Six captured as a prisoner, and Starbuck had art on her apartment wall that matches the Eye of Jupiter and the supernova that just happened. What’s going on there? She was told since she was a child that she has a destiny… what the hell?!

And because of her actions, D’anna and her model is being boxed.

The series continues to go in exciting and thought-provoking directions with characters that we love. So good!
