We got the Halloween episode a short time ago, and that was pretty bad. How’s the Smallville episode? It’s a riff on the Ebenezer Scrooge/Wonderful Life tale. Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) is shot and ends up in a coma, and while in that state he discovers a happy life that he could have, if he doesn’t run against Jonathan Kent (John Schneider) for senator.

And it includes being married with kids, to Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk).

Lex is guided through this possible existence by his late mother, Lily (Alisen Richmond-Peck), who tells him if he makes the correct and right decisions, he could have all of this.

The Kent farm is in great spirits, as Clark (Tom Welling) and Lana celebrate their first holiday season together as a couple. Chloe (Allison Mack) calls Clark to ask for help to deliver Christmas presents to needy children in Metropolis. Will the couple be able to survive the holiday season, and will Lex embrace the possible, or follow a darker path (we all know how that goes)?

Lex’s dream includes Clark’s future at the Daily Planet, and he’s with Chloe. Lex and Lana are expecting their second child, but not everything is happy and rosy; there’s a cost to life, but he could have so much joy if he chooses it. Meanwhile, Clark also finds himself helping a drunk Santa (Kenneth Walsh) with a Christmas miracle.

It’s a fairly basic holiday episode, but Rosenbaum does a great job of bringing this version of Lex to life. And it’s interesting to glimpse what could have been for him.

Lex is determined to beat Jonathan in the race for Kansas senator. He even has a super-fan, Samantha Drake (Annie B. Compton), who is willing to do anything to make sure Lex gets elected. How far is she willing to go?

Meanwhile, Jonathan has a new campaign manager in Lois Lane (Erica Durance), and after a stunning opening (Lois using a sniper rifle), the episode rolls back forty-eight hours to show us how things fell into place.

Drake and her cronies go after Jonathan, beating him but that won’t keep him down. And Lex trying to distance himself from Drake doesn’t do him much good either, she’s completely unhinged.

Lionel (John Glover) wants to fund the Kents and is working on interfering with Lex’s Senate run.

Lana and Clark are working on trying to keep their romance/love life alive, but are they coming up on the end of their relationship (again)? He goes to Chloe for advice, since she knows his secret. The pair are able to figure things out, but Lana reveals that she’s investigating the meteor showers and that could cause some problems for Clark.

Lots of things going on in this episode, and it’s always fun to see Lois kicking ass. But does Jonathan have what it takes to beat the money machine that Lex has behind him financing his Senate run? Martha (Annette O’Toole) has an idea…
