Jinx was written by Mark D. Warshaw and debuted on 3 November, 2004.
It introduces another name from the Superman legacy, meet Smallville’s version of Mxyzptlk (Trent Ford). He’s got a way to manipulate things and there are dangerous outcomes because of it, including someone getting hurt by Clark (Tom Welling) during a football game because he couldn’t control his strength.
This, of course, allows Jonathan (John Schneider) to remind Clark not only about his powers and responsibilities but that he shouldn’t be playing football. He can’t always guarantee his control. Clark feels like he belongs on the team, but because of what has happened he’s rethinking his place on the field. Something that leads to a really good scene between them at the episode’s climax.
Mxyzptlk is serving as a student bookie, and he’s determined to bring down the Smallville Crows and make a killing off of them.
Meanwhile, Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) causes some friction in Lana (Kristin Kreuk) and Jason’s (Jensen Ackles) relationship. He still thinks Clark and Lana should get there shot.
Lex has some suspicions about Mxyzptlk, and Chloe (Allison Mack) seems to have a bit of a crush. Until he literally manipulate her. He’s also, apparently, not an interdimensional imp in this version, but just an Eastern European with some powerful abilities.
Happily, Chloe’s research delivers a way to temper Mxyzptlk’s abilities, and perhaps keep the game safe, with some help from Clark.
And in the end, Lex get a hold of the schemer and manipulator. Will he be back? And what did Lex show him?
After the big win, the episode ends with the reveal that Jason was fired. Did Lex have something to do with that? Is this his way of clearing the field for Clark?

Spell takes us back to 1604, France and the story of the Countess (Kreuk), who is apparently a distant ancestor to Lana. She has three stones of power, and a spell book. And she is to be burned at the stake.
It first aired on 10 November, 2004 and was written by Steven S. DeKnight.
In the present, Lana has beeen able to track down the spellbook, and this causes the countess to take possession of Lana, and her fellow witches to take over Chloe, and Lois (Erica Durance). And Isobel and Lana is about to wreak havoc on Smallville.
They cause problems for Clark’s visit from a rep from Princeton University, assault Jason, and force Lex to play piano until his fingers bleed. And it’s all set against the backdrop of Chloe’s 18th birthday, being held in the Kent barn (as the Kents are out of town).
Oh boy. This is gonna be a mess.
And as established in the comics, Clark has no strength to stand against magic. And there’s lots of goofiness because of it. Not to mention some very sexy turns by Kreuk, Mack and Durance.
The whole episode is very Charmed and Witches of Eastwick, Kreuk, Mack and Durance get to play their characters a little differently, and they seem to be having a real good time doing it. Even if they do fall victim to all the tropes of the genre throughout the episode.
