Stargate: Universe (2010) – Incursion: Part 1, and Part 2

The finale for Stargate Universe’s inaugural season was the two-parter, Incursion. The first part aired on 4 June, 2010. It was written by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie.

The Lucian Alliance is preparing to attack and seize control of the Destiny thanks to the work they have forced Rush (Robert Carlyle) to do in working on the ninth chevron. Telford (Lou Diamond Phillips) in Rush’s body, is being held by Young (Louis Ferreira) who has ordered the venting of the atmosphere where Telford is being held.

If Telford dies in Rush’s body, what happens to Rush? The two are connected. Young learns of the incursion when Telford finally breaks, shattering the brainwashing that he’s undergone at the hands of the alliance.

Earth forces are racing to the location of the hidden Lucian base in an attempt to stop the attack before it happens. Those forces, of course, include Carter (Amanda Tapping) and Daniel (Michael Shanks) with O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) overseeing everything from Stargate Command.

The alliance is able to dial the Destiny (causing the destruction of the planet they were on due to the pull in energy) , and things escalate quickly.

Kiva (Rhona Mitra) and her members are able to seize the gate room as well as other locations, taking hostages as they go. Young is determined to save the day, and it’s going to be a huge gamble. Can Telford be trusted now?

And can he crew of Destiny find a way to save the day and repel the invaders? But is the ship repelling the invaders on its own? Some systems seem to be activating on their own. Something is going on…

The episode ends on a cliffhanger, obviously, with Young saying they have to take down the invaders immediately, no matter the risk to them and the hostages, which includes a pregnant TJ (Alaina Huffman).

Incursion: Part 2, the final episode of season one aired on 11 June, 2010, and was written by series creators, Mallozzi and Mullie.

Young is determined to get the hostages back alive and get the Lucian alliance off Destiny. Unfortunately, the first attempt goes wrong, caused by a strange temporary outage across the ship, and leaves one of Destiny’s crew dead.

Kiva refuses to negotiate with Young and begins talks with Camile (Ming-Na Wen). A trade is agreed but something is still going on with the ship. It seems hull integrity is failing, and the shields will fail soon because of the proximity to a pulsar, unless the ship can get into FTL and repairs made.

A plan is devised, but can both sides trust one another to see it through? And it also means someone needs to go out on the hull. And while that happens, Telford goes into action – but he and Kiva get shot.

But Eli (David Blu) and Chloe (Elyse Levesque) are still free on the ship, and Eli will have to take a huge risk to save Greer (Jamil Walker Smith) and Scott (Brian J. Smith) on the hull, and perhaps shift the odds, even as the Alliance seems to get the upper hand.

But guess what?

That’s where the season ends!!!
