Stargate: The Ark of Truth (2008) – Robert C. Cooper

It’s time to wrap up the Ori storyline for Stargate SG-1. But saying it and doing it are two different things, as Mitchell (Ben Browder), Carter (Amanda Tapping), Teal’c (Christopher Judge), Vala (Claudia Black) and Jackson (Micheal Shanks) are going to have their hands full.

They have found the weapon that could stop the Ori, in fact, it could stop all ascended beings. The big problem, it’s in the Ori galaxy.

So Landry (Beau Bridges) orders SG-1 to take the Asgard-upgraded Odyssey through a supergate, find the weapon and use it. Things are complicated by the assignment of a new IOA officer, Marrick (Currie Graham) who has a plan of his own should SG-1 fail.

Once through the gate, they are close to finding the Ark, but Jackson and Vala are captured, and Teal’c is left for dead. On the Odyssey, Marrick triggers his plan and Carter and Mitchell find themselves dealing with a Replicator problem.

Vala is interrogated by none other than her ascended daughter, Adria (Morena Baccarin) who is now receiving all of the faith and prayers delivered to the Ori. And Teal’c goes on a long journey only to find himself in a position to rescue Jackson (who is having visions of Merlin (Matthew Walker)) and Vala.

Back on Earth, the Ori ships are approaching with only Colonel Ellis (Michael Beach) and the Apollo standing in their way.

Cooper delivers a solid piece of work, one he wrote and directed that keeps the story moving, ties lots of narratives together, and gives a big ending to the series. He ups the stakes constantly through the story, whether physical or emotional, and he allows them to pay off.

Everyone gets their moment. There are some nice character bits, and finally, the Ori are taken care of. The Replicators? Well I’m sure they’ll still be out there should the franchise need them. But the adventures will continue, as SG-1 continues to step through the gate!

This was a great way to wrap up the series, a very nice button on everything that had come before it. The Ori thing needed to be resolved in a big way, and it mostly works. It’s a television movie after all. But its the characters that make this series shine. Ten seasons, what a run.

But this isn’t the last time we’ll see SG-1 together, there’s one more adventure coming between season four and five of Stargate: Atlantis, Stargate: Continuum.
