Toronto Fan Expo 2025 – Day 2

I have to say, today’s venture into Fan Expo was a good one. After too long apart, I was reunited with my creative partner, Sue Lawley-Maynard. Can you believe we hadn’t seen each other in person since before covid? There was a point that if one of us was around then the other was probably not far away. But life, adulthood, jobs, and more life kept us from hanging out in person.

So as a united force we stepped into day two of Fan Expo.

And I have to tell you I was delighted at the proliferation of Marty McFlys and Doc Browns in honor of the Back to the Future cast which is on site this weekend. Their panel was this evening, and was something to behold. And not only the cast, but Bob Gale one of the original writers of the film, alongside Bob Zemeckis, was on site. Since the trilogy he’s overseen the comic books, the musical, he is in fact, the keeper of the flux capacitor.

And it was fantastic to see him getting fandom love alongside Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Claudia Wells, James Tolkan, Mary Steenburgen – Happy 40th Back to the Future!!

And you know who else is getting a lot of love at this Expo? Superman! There’s four different versions of the Man of Steel on site, Tom Welling leading a huge cast turnout from Smallville, Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch from Superman & Lois, Brandon Routh from Superman Returns, and George Newbern from Justice League, and Justice League: Unlimited, not to mention other DC projects.

The nostalgia is heavy this year, and there are a number of big hitters expected over the weekend including William Shatner, Ron Perlman and Ewan McGregor. Saturday, which tends to be the busiest day of the Expo is ramping up to be huge this year!

There’s also amazing things to find and unexpected treasures. We were able to chat with artist Ben Mauro about his graphic novel, Huxley, as well as his inspirations, and his routines (not to mention his dog), and that just reminds us that every artist, every booth, has a story. That interview which can be here and on our YouTube channel. Swing by his booth and pick up a copy of Huxley today, as there are more stories to come from this beautifully created series!

As always it’s great to wander the aisles, of the North and South buildings of the Metro Toronto Convention Center. There is always a dizzying array of costumes, and I was personally delighted to see Invincible be represented in costume and fan art.

Oh, and you may think that Misty Mountain Gaming (located in the North Building under a big black tent) would be just about twenty-sided dice and cool gaming accessories and fashions. But no, they also do an amazing blend of teas, something my partner, who prides herself on her tea palette, can attest to.

There are so many panels to taken in and see, and so many things to do this year that it can be a little overwhelming. I go in each day with one specific goal in mind, and if I can get that done, anything else is a happy bonus.

If you’re heading down, remember to give yourself plenty of time, be respectful of the crowds and just because you aren’t a fan of something doesn’t mean someone else isn’t – share the love, and unite the fandoms!

And if you see me or Sue around, say hey! And let’s get a picture together.
