Stargate SG-1 (2005) – Reckoning: Part 2, and Threads

Anubis (Rik Kiviaho) and the Replicators are posing a giant threat to Earth, and O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) as the head of Stargate Command is sending his teams out to do their thing.

Reckoning: Part 2 first aired on 4 March, 2005 and was written by Damian Kindler, with excerpts written by Robert C. Cooper.

Teal’c (Christopher Judge), Carter (Amanda Tapping) and Jacob (Carmen Argenziano) are off to a distant planet, Dakara, to continue the hunt for an Ancient weapon that can stop the Replicators.

Teal’c also finds himself working with Bra’tac (Tony Amendola) and Tolok (Isaac Hayes) to lead the free Jaffa in an assault on Anubis’ forces, which could lead to freedom for all Jaffa.

Meanwhile, Daniel (Michael Shanks) is still being held by the Repli-Carter but as she continues to question and invade his mind, he’s able to recall memories of the Ancients that were given to him when he Ascended. But maybe he can manipulate her and stop the Replicators long enough for the plan to come into play.

And through it all, Ba’al (Cliff Simon) is completely untrustworthy. And what of Repli-Carter’s plans?

Attack fronts are everywhere, Teal’c leads a space battle, O’Neill is defending the SGC against the Replicators, and Jacob and Carter are working to get the weapon activated!

It’s fast, fun, and there is a lot going on. And is Daniel dead… again? He gets beamed away as the weapon’s wave strikes Repli-Carter’s ship, but he was also stabbed by her… so where is he now?

Threads is a longer episode, running 63 minutes with lots going on. It first aired on 11 March, 2005. It was written by Cooper with excerpts written by Kindler.

Daniel is in a strange place out of space and time. A diner, and Oma (Mel Harris) is working there as a waitress, but in actuality is waiting to see if Daniel will choose to ascend again. If he does that, he won’t be able to help in the battle against Anubis who is still out there somewhere.

A conversation with another denizen of the diner, Jim (George Dzunda) offers a different perspective. But what can be trusted in this strange place?

Back on Earth, Carter has decided that Pete (David DeLuise) should meet her father, Jacob. But, of course, there are complications. Jacob has been keeping something from her. And Pete has a house and everything all picked out for them.

But Carter, well, she still has feelings for O’Neill, will they ever be able to act on it? But O’Neill is in a relationship now. Her name is Kerry (Clare Carey). So what does that mean for them? And what relationships will carry on?

And Teal’c and Bra’tac learn that Anubis is gathering his forces after the battle of Dakara. They are also asked to be on the new ruling council of free Jaffa now that most of the Goa’uld have been taken care of. But Teal’c knows the battle continues.

But there can also be diplomatic issues between Earth and the Free Jaffa Nation, and their holding of Dakara.

This is definitely the show’s attempt to wrap up all the big storylines that have been running since the beginning of the series. That would let the series go in new directions with season nine.

There’s some fun stuff throughout. The diner Daniel finds himself in is the set used for the brilliant Dead Like Me, and all the articles in the newspaper, The Ascended Times – there are nods to whats happening in Atlantis, and what may be coming down the pipe for the series.

Filled with moments big and small, and all important, this is a great episode. It’s a wonderful payoff for the fans who have been watching from the beginning, and lets the series wrap up narrative and character threads.

Next time, the season finale! Buckle up!
