Farscape (2002) – What Was Lost: Part 2 – Resurrection, and Lava’s a Many Splendored Thing

What Was Lost: Part 2 – Resurrection picks up moments after the cliffhanger of the previous episode, with Crichton (Ben Browder) surviving his jump from the cliff, and rescued by a waterbound species.

Reuniting with D’Argo (Anthony Simcoe) and Sikozu (Raelee Hill) who reveal that he’s been exposed to Grayza’s (Rebecca Riggs) controlling pheromones. Now, he’s been cleared of them, but he’s going to have to take one for the team.

Written by Justin Monjo, this episode was first broadcast on 21 June, 2002.

To save the planet, they have to find and activate the last probe, something that the Peacekeepers are hunting for, but someone doesn’t want that.

And everyone gets to see how far Scorpius (Wayne Pygram) has fallen in the eyes of the Peacekeepers; beaten, subjugated and controlled. … and executed? He’s definitely been shot and buried!

And guess who is about to betray Crichton and the rest? Could it be the cute new ginger? Sigh, yes it is. Or is it all a plan?

There’s a lot going on in this episde, and not all of it is good. And add to that the fact that we’re still waiting for the return of not only Moya, but Aeryn (Claudia Black) as well.

And the dying leviathan, they’ve been on since the season started? It can’t have that much life left in it, can it? I think the episode will answer that question.

Can the water creature be trusted and what’s going on with Noranti (Melissa Jaffer)? And she certainly knows how to motivate Crichton, and you really don’t want to know where she hid Winona, his pulse pistol.

The heroes save the day, something that doesn’t always happen for our gang, but it doesn’t do much to do the overall series arc forward. Except leave us wondering about what will happen, if anything will Scorpius.

I will say this, the location work on this episode is fantastic. But we do say goodbye to Jool (Tammy Macintosh).

Lava’s a Many Splendored Thing was written by Michael Miller and first aired on 28 June, 2002.

Using D’Argo’s ship, the gang is headed to reunite with Moya and Pilot (voiced by Lani John Tupu), They stop on the way at a nearby planet after ingesting one of Noranti’s concotions. And Rygel (voiced by Jonathan Hardy) causes problems by getting himself trapped in amber when he tries to steal some treasure.

Crichton, Noranti and D’Argo work to get him out, but they find themselves sealed in a cave with trouble in the form of not only the original thieves, but also raiders who want the treasure for themselves.

Nothing seems to work out for the group, and Rygel… is Rygel dead? Nope. Crichton comes through in the end. I

And once again, there’s no real advancement of the overall arc, we still haven’t caught up with Moya (though they now have a rendezvous point) or Aeryn, but there are some fun moments. D’Argo and Crichton are great to watch when they are working together.

And honestly, I like the relationships, the character banter, and the way the characters have all continued to grow. I think that’s why at that point I’m not the biggest fan of the stories that don’t move the series story forward.

It’s fine, but I need the whole gang back together, even if that means it’s going to be painful for all the characters.
