When a tourist, David Carter (Patrick Cavanaugh) goes missing, his wife, Dana (Ashani Roberts) and daughter, Mia (Serenity Grace Russell) ask the hotel for help. The hotel reaches out to Katsumoto (Tim Kang) to help, and he reaches out to Magnum (Jay Hernandez).
The pair find themselves wrapped up in a case that sees them working together very well, and one that has a lot of twists and turns as the truth begins to come out. They have some nice banter and make a really good team.
Welcome to Paradise, Now Die! was written by Tera Tolentino and first aired on 12 March, 2023.
Magnum is spending time going through Greene’s file from HPD, thanks to Katsumoto, and trying to figure out how best proceed.
Higgins (Perdita Weeks) and Kumu (Amy Hill) are doing some casework of their own. Patty Talbot (Rita Rudner) hires Higgins to find out who murdered her dog and finds strychnine poisoning that may have been meant for Patty. But there’s something else going on, as always.
And Rick (Zachary Knighton) finally on a day off needs help from T.C. (Stephen Hill) when Magnum’s pet mouse, Roberto II goes missing. This leads to more clues for the pair to figure out who Magnum’s relationship is with. Kumu is the one who is closest to figuring it out though because of the lads’ reaction to Magnum. But one slip-up from Higgins shocks Rick and T.C. with the truth.
We learn that Rick is also a master of the pillow fort.
My only issue with this episode was this is the first time we’ve seen Roberto II and while the series has been pretty good with continuity I bet we never see the little mouse again.

Now that Rick and T.C. know about the relationship, and are working to convince Kumu, and Rick is making innuendos around Magnum and Higgins.
Dead Ringer was written by Barbie Kligman and first debuted on 19 March, 2023.
Katsumoto’s hearing is coming up. Will he get to be a cop again? If he is will he and Childs (Michael Rady) be his new partner? I do like that the episode takes the time to spend time with Katsumoto and explore his dilemma. In fact, as mentioned before, I really like how the series has taken its time to let all the supporting characters develop.
Magnum and Higgins are hired to investigate Jack Hill (Patrick Mulvey) by a nameless client who wants them to dig into Hill’s past. Hill apparently is a former cop, but he may have committed murder.
Higgins works to find out who their client is, which leads to anesthesiologist, Dr. Sally Cates (Christiane Seidel) who oversaw Hill’s appendectomy and was shocked by what the ex-cop said under anesthesia.
So Katsumoto gets back on the force, and Magnum admits to his relationship with Higgins when pressed by T.C. and Rick. It’s a happy ending for our characters, but they still have to figure out the Buck Greene story thread.
The fun in the sun continues next week when I explore more of Magnum P.I. – The Complete Series on DVD available now from Paramount Canada, aloha!
