Jaye (Caroline Dhavernas) and Eric (Tyron Leitso) have their first real date at the Niagara Zoo (it’s the Toronto Zoo) but of course, something urges her to take a step to help someone in Safety Canary.
Written by Liz W. Garcia and Alexander Woo this episode has some wonderful guest stars including Kelly Waymire and Jewel Staite. There are plenty of callbacks throughout this episode, Jaye’s sister, Sharon (Katie Finneran) struggles with her own relationship with Beth (Kari Matchett) and Jaye disrupts a show at the show with flash photography despite Penelope’s (Waymire) warning.
This eventually leads to Penelope being fired, but Jaye decides to help Penelope help two rare birds mate, while also forming a love connection between Penelope and another zoo employee, Rufus (Dov Tiefenbach) as well her developing relationship with Eric.
And Eric seems to be really falling for Jaye in a big way. Mahandra (Tracie Thoms) shows some concern as she doesn’t want anything bad to happen to either of them while wondering about a love connection with Jaye’s brother Aaron (Lee Pace).
Jaye decides to be proactive and breakup with Eric before anything can happen, but then as things play out through the episode, she wants to take the chance with Eric after all, but it’s not going to be that easy because Eric’s wife Heidi (Staite) shows up.
It’s a fun, romantic episode that also has that shot of pain at the end of the episode for Jaye because of the choice she made (and the arrival of Heidi). Ouch.
Lying Pig was written by Krista Vernoff and Abby Gewanter. It picks up just before the end of the last episode to see Heidi and Eric’s side of the story that Jaye walked in on.
Jaye does her best to fight against the muses in this episode when during a confrontation with Heidi, she’s told to ‘mend what is broken’ and she really doesn’t want to see Heidi and Eric back together.
And we also get the reveal that Aaron and Mahandra have taken the leap together!! Though she’s not sure how she feels about it, despite her glow.
Jaye turns to Aaron for help as he’s the only one who suspects what is really going on. She comes clean on the whole thing and they go about clearing out her trailer of all the things that have spoken to her at this point.
Heidi keeps coming back to speak with Eric, but can’t seem to make any headway, but that’s not going to stop her from trying. But is that what Jaye is supposed to mend?
Jaye gets to know Heidi but after initially starting to come around to their situation, Heidi reveals the truth about what is going on. And Mahandra learns that Eric really does love Jaye, and that may be the relationship that needs mending, but Mahandra keeps getting it confused with her feelings for Aaron.
As Eric gets ready to walk down the aisle (again) with Heidi, she has to decide what she’s going to do. And will it be the best thing for her, Heidi or Eric?
