Sarah’s (Yvonne Strahovski) con-man father, Jack Burton (Gary Cole) is back in this fun return of the character, Chuck Versus the Wedding Planner, written by Rafe Judkins and Lauren LeFranc. It first aired on 19 April, 2011.
When Chuck (Zachary Levi) are taken in by a wedding planner con run by Daphne Peralta (Lisa LoCicero). Embarrassed to admit to the General (Bonita Friedericy) that they were taken in, Sarah visits her father, and then she and Chuck decide to use all the resources in their reach to track Daphne down, which causes problems with the government at the wrong time… just when Chuck flashes on members of a wedding party arriving, and the dangerous tech they are bringing in to the country.
Jack shows up to help Chuck, Sarah, Morgan (Joshua Gomez) and Casey (Adam Baldwin) run a con of their own to get the tech, while hanging over Jack and his daughter is her upcoming nuptials and his own history of not being there for her.
Added to this family drama, Alex (Mekenna Melvin) and Morgan think Casey should reveal the truth about his still being alive to Alex’s mother, Kathleen (Clare Carey).
There’s a really nice moment at the end of the episode that has Sarah’s dad really come through for her, and perhaps the wedding won’t be completely ruined. And, of course, there’s always the possibility that he could make an appearance at the wedding.
A really fun episode (including a great bit where Sarah does her impression of Chuck’s flash), and it’s always fun to see Gary Cole thrown into the mix with his cast.
Chuck Versus Agent X was penned by Phil Klemmer and Craig DiGregorio. It first aired on 2 May, 2011, and moved the season arc forward even as Sarah and Chuck are preparing for their bachelorette and bachelor parties respectively.
Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) has been digging deeper into her father’s computer, and Riley (Ray Wise) from Volkoff Industries now has a lead on where the computer is, and is coming hunting for it.
Happy circumstances see Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) taking Ellie’s bag for his weekend away with Chuck and the guys, but that ends up making them a target for Riley and his team. But Chuck and Casey are ready to handle that problem, but are they ready for the evidence that the reactivated computer gives them.
There are files within, mentioning an Agent X, someone Volkoff Industries is determined to get their hands on, and now Chuck, Casey and Sarah have a lead on where that person may have come from, but they won’t be ready for who it is, or what their identity may mean for their own safety.
And through it all, Big Mike (Mark Christoper Lawrence) and Lester (Vik Sahay) just want to gamble and carouse their weekend away, and are having more trouble with that than they thought they would. And in a really nice touch, Ellie and Chuck reveal the secrets they’ve been keeping, and she finally gets to see the inside of Castle.
Next week’s instalment brings us to the end of season four, and we then begin our race through the truncated season five, but for now, I have more Chuck to look forward to.
