Orphan Black S03E06 – Certain Agony of the Battlefield

Wow what a kick in the gut last night’s episode of Orphan Black was huh? The emotional punches and revelations just kept coming, and constantly stunned me over and over…

Sarah (Tatiana Maslany) still being held in Dr. Coady’s (Kyra Harper) compound (which Mrs. S (Maria Doyle Kennedy) has learned is in Mexico) and after a transfusion of some Castor blood is having some strange dreams, including a visit from Beth (Maslany), and soon finds herself infected with the same thing that Gracie (Zoe de Grand Maison) and Patty (Natalie Krill) are suffering from.

Paul (Dylan Bruce) after a meeting in Arlington starts to dig into things a little more aggressively as the truth about the Castor’s intimate involvement is transferring their defect via sexual contact (or a blood transfusion). Learning that Coady is deliberately infecting these women, and causing their sterilization gives Paul enough to arrest her and seize control of the camp. There are plans to develop it into a biological weapon… But when more revelations are made Paul and Sarah, who is able to beat the infection, have to escape the compound… but things end up very dire for Paul…

In the immediate area, Helena (also Maslany) us still wandering the desert, and that may cause some problems for Pupok the scorpion…

Cosima (still Maslany) and Shay (Ksenia Solo) are great to watch together, as it seems Shay makes her happy, though she thinks they may be moving a little fast… Scott (Josh Vokey) interrupts though, trying to summon Cosima to Dyad.

When she arrives, it’s revealed that Delphine (Evelyne Brochu) is there, and is well aware of what they’ve been doing with the Castor brain… Gracie comes in to the lab for more tests, and Felix (Jordan Gavaris) uses the opportunity to visit Rachel (yup, Maslany) and aggressively demand the location of Sarah from her. He pushes hard, and Scott demands they leave, but not before the young scientist notices symbols in Rachel’s therapeutic paintings that may be a key to the code in the Island of Dr. Moreau book.

There are a few more lighter moments, Donnie (Kristian Bruun) and Alison have a great sequence featuring underwear, money, and parents alone time, before they arrange to meet up with Jason (Justin Chatwin) about taking their business to the next level – by using Alison’s mother’s store, Bubbles, as a front. Donnie and Alison  are so fun to watch together and their lighter moments, as well as those romantic interludes of Shay and Cosima make for a nice balance for all the weighty and gut punches the Sarah story has this week!

This show continues to set the standard for writing, acting and production, amazing us from week to week!

Orphan Black airs weekly on Space! That’s the good news. The bad news is, we are coming up on the last few episodes of season 3 before the long wait for season 4 begins…
