The other show I had to catch up on after Toronto After Dark was this week’s episode of S.H.I.E.L.D., and as demonstrated from week to week, the stories and character continue to get stronger and more enjoyable.
This week, we learn a little bit more about Skye (Chloe Bennet), though we’re still left on the fence about where her loyalties truly lay, with her team, or with the Rising Tide? This question is brought to the fore when Miles (Austin Nichols) shows up in her life, and we learn very quickly, as does the team, when Melinda (Ming-Na Wen) follows her, that they have a relationship with one another, and that they both work for Rising Tide… But does Skye still work for them? She definitely has to win back the trust of Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the others after this week’s debacle.
While all of this is going on, we hear more rumors about Centipede, and a talented street performer Chan Ho Yin (Louis Changchien) gets seduced by one of its members, Raina (Ruth Negga) and has his powers augmented, a flame-based power, and makes the mistake of naming him, Scorch.
Things get worse for Chan, when those who are helping him, order his power drained, and Coulson and the gang have to go in and save the day, as well as stopping Scorch from becoming the next super-villain.
This week was fun, sharp, and playful, the bit with Skye and Ward (Brett Dalton), was fun, though some of it seemed a little forced, but it’s great to see the stories getting tighter, and the characters loosening up a little more.
I am left wondering if the Bus ever lands and refuels though…
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D airs Tuesdays on CTV, but is off next week, returning on the 5th of November.
What are your thoughts on the series so far?
