Toronto After Dark 2013 – Sue’s Most Anticipated Films

I love October! I love the leaves turning colours, I love how clean the air smells (and the fact that there is actually air in the city again), I love love love Halloween! And added to all that is a film festival for me to love – Toronto After Dark, showcasing the year’s best horror, sci-fi and cult films over ten fabulous nights during this, the most wonderful time of the year.

The Mind Reels is honoured to have been granted some coveted press passes once again for this year’s event, and it all gets underway starting TONIGHT!

So, without further ado, here are the films I am most looking forward to this year, in the order of their screenings (bearing in mind that my health will only allow me to go to the early shows – *kicks MS right in the face*):

We Are What We Are – Thursday October 17, 2013 at 7:00pm (OPENING NIGHT)

Silent Retreat – Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 4:15pm

Odd Thomas – Monday, October 21, 2013 at 7:00pm (DOUBLE SCENE POINTS)

Last Days On Mars – Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 7:00pm (SCI FI NIGHT)

Found – Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 7:00pm (GORY NIGHT)

I am also eager to hopefully enjoy Willow Creek and Cheap Thrills, but am a tad nervous about them, as well.  Willow Creek (Thursday October 24th at 7:00pm) is a found footage film about a search for Bigfoot…which could be awesome if the shakey cam isn’t so bad that I have to leave the theatre.  I’ll sit in the back for that one, just in case.  Cheap Thrills (Friday, October 25th at 7:00pm), about a down-on-his-luck dad who accepts payment from a rich couple for performing increasingly dangerous dares could also be amazing, but it could bother the heck out of me, as well.  I’m hoping to maintain my ability to find the (dark) humour in the idea and thus enjoy the ride, however, especially as that will be my last film of the fest for this year, and I like to go out on a high note!

So there you have it, folks!  Tickets are available here, the full line-up and schedule is here, and you can view all of the trailers online here.  All screenings this year are taking place at the Scotiabank theatre downtown, so get down there, and fasten your seatbelts!  We’re in for a helluva ride!!!

As always, we shall see you after dark!!!
