Rockne O’Bannon penned the script for this week’s Defiance and I love how he opened up the world a little more and it seems that everyone in this town has a secret or two.
I’ve been intrigued with the world of Defiance since its first episode, I’ve loved the writing, the characters and the situations. It’s quickly becoming one of my new favorite shows, and I haven’t been let down by an episode yet.
There are secrets aplenty hinted at as a Castithan weapons engineer Pol Madis (Daniel Kash) is discovered in Defiance by one of Nolan’s old war buddies turned bounty hunter Eddie Braddock (Rob Stewart). We learn that Pol recognizes Doc Yewll (Trenna Keating) and apparently she may have done some bad things during the war. We learn that Kenya (Mia Kirshener) is falling for Nolan (Grant Bowler) in a big way, but because of a social gaffe in regards to her job, and the realization that she is falling for him, shuts him down. We learn that Eddie helped sneak Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas) out of the camps so Nolan could raise her.
The big reveal is that Nolan has a bounty out on him for half a million scripts, and with the very real possibility of Eddie’s return, things may end up getting uncomfortable in Defiance for our lawkeeper.
Everyone wants Pol, Amanda (Julie Benz) is willing to give him over to the E-Rep, if they are given rights to the mag-lev train. Nolan is willing to give Pol over to Eddie, until he learns the whys and wherefores of what is really going on. Then in what is a brilliant move on Nolan’s part, he does what feels right.
Quentin McCawley (Justin Rain) is digger deeper into the mystery that killed his brother, although Nicolette (Fionnula Flanagan) is on to him, as well as investigating the odd icon that was found in his belongings, something which leads him to commit murder!
There’s a mention of the six-legged monkey crawl, and I definitely want to know what THAT is!
I’m bummed by what happened between Nolan and Kenya, but of course if everything went easy, then we’d have nothing to hope for. Hopefully Kenya comes to her senses, and the two of them can sort something out.
And speaking of ruined romances… Tommy (Dewshane Williams) gets shut down by Irisa after their little romp last week. Poor guy.
And speaking of poor fellas, Datak Tarr (Tony Curran) has a tough go of it this week, when he’s infected by a nanobug controlled by Pol which causes him various levels of pain, forcing him to help Pol escape town. This leads to a car chase with Datak and Pol being chased by Nolan and Eddie in the lawkeeper’s runner (which just put me in mind of The Road Warrior for some reason).
Defiance continues to be an awesome series, creating a whole world in which our characters exist, I’m ecstatic that we are getting a second series, and am already bummed that there is no new episode next week.
Still, doesn’t mean I can’t rewatch all the episodes again 🙂
How are you enjoying the series?
