The Record Breaker – Brian McGinn, Denmark

Paired with Ping-Pong this half hour short follows Ashrita Furman, the man who holds the official record for the most Guiness World Records by one person (approx. 415 by the time of the screening on April 29, 2012).

And delightfully they’re all fun – using the worlds biggest hula hoop, walking in the world’s heaviest shoes, walking backwards, long distance skipping…

And now, he wants to tackle Machu Picchu… On stilts.

The above may make it sound as if Ashrita is a little eccentric and odd, I personally think it just means he’s seeking out fun and wonder, creating it and living it.

This is something his estranged father begins to realize as well. He sees his son as one of the happiest people he knows, following his own joys, spirituality and facing life on his own terms and how can that be a bad thing?

Accompanied by Champ the dog, Ashrita and friends create and break records and we, the audience are invited in to share his joy.

A wonderful and delightful film that is perfectly paired with Ping-Pong.
The Record Breaker an be seen Wednesday May 2 at 1:30pm at the Bader and Sunday May 6 at 1:15pm at the Bloor Cinema.
