Captain’s log: 6 May, 2151 Rick Berman and Brannon Braga pen the follow-up episode to the series premiere. Fight or Flight debuted on 3 October, 2001, and despite the promise of an inhabited world that scans picked up at the end of the previous episode, the only lifeform they’ve found is an alien worm, christened…

Jules et Jim (1962) – Francois Truffaut
The Directory, the final part of DK Canada’s The Movie Book continues to bring me exemplary films to expand my cinematic education, and today it brings me a classic Truffaut film. Adapting the novel of the same name by Henri-Pierre Rochem, Truffaut serves not only as director but writer and producer as well. The film…
Moonlighting (1987) – Cool Hand Dave: Part 1 & 2
Tired of waiting for Maddie (Cybill Shepherd) to return, David (Bruce Willis) flies to Chicago to confront her, after Agnes (Allyce Beasley) spills the pregnancy news to Bert (Curtis Armstrong) who in turn shares it with David. The episode aired on 17 November, 1987, and was written by Roger Director and Charles H. Eglee. Unfortunately,…
The Land That Time Forgot (1974) – Kevin Connor
The next film to be explored in DK Canada’s hugely enjoyable Monsters in the Movies book as I continue my sojourn through the chapter on Dragons & Dinosaurs is this 1974 film that not only the land forgot, but time too. I can’t say I ever heard of it, and it should have been the…
Moonlighting (1987) – Sam & Dave, and Maddie’s Turn to Cry
David (Bruce Willis) is having problems with Maddie (Cybill Shepherd) and the relationship she has begun with Sam (Mark Harmon) and it’s just going to cause him to spin out of control, drunkenly, even as he tries to be civil and friendly. Sam & Dave was writte by Charles H. Eglee and Roger Director from…

The holograms that populate the program begin to become suspicious of the crew and begin to think they may be fairies or…
Toronto After Dark 2019: The Wretched (2019) – Brett Pierce and Drew T. Pierce
Closing out the Toronto After dark film festival tonight at Scotibank Theater is the latest film from the Pierce Brothers as they have the Toronto Premiere of The Wretched. With overtones of 80s classics, like The Evil Dead and Fright Night (and going a little further back to the 70s with Jaws – I may…
Star Wars: Clone Wars (2008) – Rookies, Downfall of a Droid, and Duel of the Droids
“The best confidence builder is experience.” Steve Melching pens the first episode up this week, Rookies, that first debuted on 24 October, 2008. Commander Cody and Captain Rex (both voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) set the tone, and inspire a cadre of rookie clone troopers when their distant Rishi outpost is on the verge of…
Rocketman (2019) – Blu-Ray Review
The fantasy biopic about musical legend (and one of my favorite artists) Elton John has come home on blu-ray and DVD thanks to Paramount Pictures. Taron Egerton who is bound to be nominated for an Oscar (or should be) IS Elton John in this jukebox musical that tells the musician’s personal history in a fantastical,…
The Sweet Hereafter (1997) – Atom Egoyan
Atom Egoyan’s heartbreaking, and powerful film (something I was fortunate enough to be able to tell the director in person) is the next stop in DK Canada’s The Movie Book. Based on the novel by Russell Banks, which Egoyan adapted as well as directed the film features great performances by Ian Holm, Sarah Polley, Bruce…
