Smallville (2004) – Legacy, and Truth

Lionel (John Glover) is determined to learn Clark’s (Tom Welling) secret, so much so that he tracks down, and attempts to make a deal with Virgil Swann (Christopher Reeve) in Legacy.

Written by Jeph Loeb, this episode was first broadcast on 14 April, 2004.

But that isn’t the only thing Clark has to worry about this week. Though this will definitely stretch Clark’s trust in Swan and Lex (Michael Rosenbaum). He also begins to think Jonathan (John Schneider) may be coming under Jor-El’s influence (and reminds us that he made a deal with Jor-El) again when Jonathan starts acting strangely.

Things seem to be coming undone around the Kents pretty quickly. And as stress mounts, he turns to Lana (Kristin Kreuk) and they share a kiss, but she reminds him that his father needs him. And this is just a stress reaction. No matter how much they care for one another.

Swan and Lionel verbally joust, but will Swan betray Clark? And there’s a lot of strained conversations between Clark and Lex, but Lex reveals that Swan may have agreed to help Lionel. But is his secret safe? When Clark goes to see Swan, he reveals another Kryptonian message, one that originated on Earth, and wasn’t meant for him, but someone else.

And through it all, there is great stuff with Clark and Jonathan. And how will Clark save his dad? And how far will Jonathan go to protect his son? Lionel, Jonathan and Clark may find out! And man, that Kryptonian Key is causing lots of problems, but what did it do now?

In fact, all of the characters get great moments in this episode, there is a lot going on here now. Lots of character arcs, lots of secrets, and so much more to come for all of them.

Truth first aired on 21 April, 2004. It was written by Drew Z. Greenberg.

Chloe (Allison Mack) is determined to find proof that Lionel has blacklisted her father, so she breaks into LuthorCorp to find it. Unfortunately, while she’s in there she’s exposed to a chemical compound that causes those around her to tell the truth.

This is great for a reporter, but Clark’s worst nightmare. Especially when Pete (Sam Jones III) starts spilling Clark’s secrets. Clark seems to be the only one who is immune, will it wear off, how will things resolve? Or will it kill her if the toxicity of the chemical overcomes her system?

One of the teachers ruins their career when she talks to Chloe. And once Chloe realizes what she can do wither new ability she uncovers a number of stories and secrets.

Happily Clark is able to get his hands on a cure, that saves her life. Which may come just in time, because someone is out to exact revenge on Chloe for letting some of the secrets out. But his secret and their friendship is safe for another day. And one of the secrets Pete reveals is how he feels for Chloe.

And the final moments give Clark one more kick… Lana is planning on going to Paris. She needs to leave.

We’re racing towards the end of Season Three, so I think from here on out, we’ll be seeing the stakes get higher and higher. Buckle up.
