Cloverdale brings us to what may be my least favourite episode of the series. Written by Brad Wright, this episode was first broadcast on 26 October, 2010.
Now, just because I said least favourite, doesn’t mean it’s not good. It’s just Universe has set a pretty high bar for the series.
Scott (Brian J. Smith) has been infected with some strange fungal growth while on a planetary expedition. While everyone works to save his life, he finds himself trapped in an illusion – he’s on Earth, heading home to Cloverdale. Greer (Jamil Walker Smith) is his best friend, Young (Louis Ferreira) is his dad, Chloe (Elyse Levesque) is his fiance, and Eli (David Blue) is her brother.
His body is trying to fight the infection, even in the illusion. And everyone he knows on Destiny is appearing in his illusion as they fight to save him. Can TJ (Alaina Huffman) find a way to save the day? And Chloe may be the key to saving him, because whatever th aliens had infected her with, is still in her body… and what will that mean going forward?
All of this goes down while Greer and his men work to keep some very dangerous plants at bay.
It’s a good episode, it’s just not as great as other episodes. It’s fun seeing the characters in other roles, and I do like how the episode tries to raise thee stakes for all the characters. But this far into the series, I don’t think they’re going to take away any of the characters…
Doesn’t mean that their fates can’t be up for grabs as Young quarantines Chloe and Scott when they return to Destiny. Whatever the aliens did to Chloe, it’s still inside her, and now possibly Scott as well.

Trial and Error was written by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie. It first aired on 2 November, 2010.
Young is upset when he returns from Earth (via the communication stones). His wife wants a divorce. Upon his return, he drinks heavily, dealing with his depression, but he also begins to have dreams about the aliens who attacked Destiny.
In the dreams, the aliens demand Chloe, and everytime he refuses, the ship is destroyed. When he turns her over in the dream… even that doesn’t go well.
Rush (Robert Carlyle) begins to suspect that these are more than dreams, even as he continues to hide the knowledge about his increased know-how of how Destiny works. It’s a battle scenario orchestrated by the ship, but does it mean the aliens are coming?
Or is it all just the Destiny connecting to the minds of the crew?
And Eli is paired with Ginn (Julie McNiven) of the Lucian Alliance. The pair are super-smart, and begin to connect.
Once again, there is lots going on, and it’s great to see the way the characters are evolving an changing from situation to situation. I like this episode. It shows us that we still don’t know a lot about Destiny, and that’s a little frightening.
Let’s see where Destiny takes us next.
