We must be racing towards the season finale, because things are happening faster now. The Clark (Tom Welling) and Lana (Kristin Kreuk) relationship seems to finally be getting underway, which is good for both of them, YAY! Or is it? Following a passionate kiss, Lana is less than sure (or is she just scared?), but trouble is coming…
Dr. Walden (Rob LaBelle) has awakened from his coma, warning Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) that something is coming. And I don’t think he means his impending nuptials to Helen (Emmanuelle Vaugier).
Written by Kenneth Biller, this episode debuted on 13 May, 2003.
The wedding is getting closer, Clark is working on his Best Man’s toast, and the Kents have been asked to stand in for Lex’s parents.
But things keep happening to hinder the happiness, someone has broken into Helen’s lab and stolen the vial of Clark’s blood.
Oh and Clark, he hears a voice saying that something is coming, just like Walden. That voice is provided by Terrence Stamp, so there’s a big reveal coming. Course those familiar musical cues from John Williams only heighten that.
Walden seems to have gained some kind of power and escapes from the hospital, after leaving a message on the walls.
Lots and lots going on, and the narrative balances them all, and while Lana and Clark’s relationship seems to be improving, there is a sense of mistrust growing on Lex’s behalf when it comes to Clark.
And Lionel (John Glover) approaches Chloe (Allison Mack) about an assignment – investigate Clark Kent for him. Chloe refuses of course.
The confrontation between Walden and Clark forces the young man to take a life, and who has Clark’s blood, not Lionel, but Lex!
As the episode concludes Chloe catches Lana and Clark kissing, and then Clark is summoned to the storm cellar by his ship and a voice… leading to a To Be Continued.
There’s a lot going on, and it just keeps ramping up emotionally. The story beats push the narrative higher and higher… the next episode is going to be huge!
Exodus reveals the voice Clark heard as Jor-El, Clark’s biological father, and he tells Clark to prepare for his destiny to rule the world.
It’s season finale time. Showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar penned this one, and it brought season two to a close on 20 May, 2003.
Clark struggles with the choices before him even as he and Lana have never been closer.
Lex reveals the truth to Helen that he stole the blood from her office, and I think that means the wedding is off.
Both Clark and Lex seem to be struggling with their perceived destinies.
And the caves, the caves have been causing a lot of problems this season. For all the good they’ve done about revealing who Clark is, they are also causing a lot of tension between Clark and both Luthors.
And thanks to Walden’s burned body, and the imprint of the key, Lionel has crafted his own, out of kryptonite.
Helen reconsiders and agrees to marry Lex, so we get a wedding after all.
And what will Clark do? He’s got a plan. With some help from Pete (Sam Jones III) he plans to steal the kryptonite key and use it on the ship. Good plan. Kind of. But it goes disastrously wrong. It blows up, but injures Jonathan (John Schneider) and Martha (Annette O’Toole). It also causes Martha to miscarry.
Completely wrecked, Clark puts on the red kryptonite ring, grabs a motorcycle and heads out of town.
And Lex’s honeymoon? He wakes up on his private plane, alone, and about to crash into the ocean.
Oh and Chloe is upset and jealous over the Clark and Lana thing, and agrees to investigate Clark for Lionel…
Quite a way to leave us hanging until season three. Such a great season, and what a note to end on!
