Mark Verheiden penned Witness that first aired on 29 April, 2003. Following an argument with Chloe (Allison Mack) about his obligations to the Torch, Clark (Tom Welling) witnesses a theft!
A fellow student has broken into a LuthorCorp van and stolen something… and the van was carrying kryptonite!
Clark decides to take action himself, sidestepping the police, but it could put those he loves in danger. He got a look at the crooks with his x-ray vision, spotting a steel plate in his head. Clark makes the connection with some help from Pete (Sam Jones III). The villain is fellow student, Eric Marsh (Zachery Ty Bryan). And he’s using kryptonite in his inhaler. He and his friends are refining it.
He’s basically doping to be a sports superstar, and he’s not afraid to attempt to kill to achieve his goal. Will Clark be able to find a way to save the day? And what happens when Eric brings the fight to the Kent farm? It shows why Clark will need a secret identity to protect the ones he loves.
At the Luthor mansion ,Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) and Lionel (John Glover) clash over the theft, and Lex wants to know what was in the truck that Lionel wanted protected so badly. Lex even goes to see Eric, which sets some troubling things into motion.
The climactic fight is done well and you can see that both Welling and Clark have grown over the course of the series. But there’s more to wonder about before the end of the episode; will Clark and Chloe be able to patch up their friendship? and what will Lana (Kristin Kreuk) do when she learns a truth about her father’s wife and how she’s impacted their lives?
The emotional stakes are pretty high in this one. And what is Lionel’s motivation for refurbishing the Torch after ‘someone’ trashes it? Lionel is working all the angles in this one.

Accelerate was written by Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson from a story by Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer.
Lana, after a fun screening of a horror movie with Clark, Pete and Chloe has a strange encounter with a childhood friend, Emily (Jodelle Ferland) – she’s still a child. A child who died. And it seems only Lana can see her. Is she a ghost?
What’s going on? It can’t be supernatural can it?
When Lana shares what is happening with Clark, the are determined to find the truth. They even go to see Emily’s reclusive father (Neil Flynn).
Is Lionel and his reactivated Level 3 research somehow involved? Oh yeah, they are. Things start to be revealed and we learn that Emily is still alive, and has super-speed, and an anger issue.
And will Clark and Lana be ready for where their investigation takes them? There’s a lot going on, and it’s gonna be trouble. Emily is dead… but there are… clones? And Lana has to confront a tragedy from her past before the story ends.
The continuing arcs of the show are still at work, the Chloe/Clark relationship is strained, Lex is preparing for a wedding that is three weeks away, and Clark and Lana seem to be gettting closer… and Martha (Annette O’TToole) is still expecting.
