Tracker first airs on 19 September, 2008. It was written by Carl Binder from a story by Binder and David Schmidt.
McKay (David Hewlett) is looking forward to some alone time with Keller (Jewel Staite) when he accompanies her on a medical mission. He’s a little bummed when they are joined by Ronon (Jason Momoa).
Soon after their arrival, however, they find themselves in lots of trouble. Keller is kidnapped by Kiryk (Mike Dopud), a runner like Ronon once was. Kiryk is, of course, running from the Wraith, so everyone gets caught up in it.
Kiryk has kidnapped Keller to help someone.
There’s some fun competition between Ronon and McKay for Keller’s affections, and it ends up being a really solid adventure. All of them have wonderful chemistry together.
In fact, every one seems to be on their A game here. Staite has fit in nicely with the Atlantis cast, and she’s made Keller her own. She’s a great character, and has some wonderful moments throughout the episode.
And everything with Ronon and McKay is pitch perfect, they banter and clash, and obviously both care deeply for Keller. That means, they’ll have to be honest with each other about their intentions. It adds a nice new angle to their relationship.
But let’s be honest, it’s Keller’s call in the end, not theirs. So as ‘funny’ as that moment is, I’d be more interested in Keller’s reaction.
Still, overall, I quite liked this episode. It’s got some fun moments, and like I said, some wonderful chemistry between the leads.
First Contact sees Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) coming to Atlantis. Written by Martin Gero, this episode was first broadcast on 26 September, 2008 and is the mid-point of the season, so we can expect a fairly big episode.
Jackson arrives, believing he’s on the verge of a specific room in the city. Working with McKay, mostly against his will, they discover not only the room, but a previously unknown race. Have they found a new ally or enemy?
This new race, kidnaps the pair and forces them to work. To work on a weapon that may stop the Wraith!
Meanwhile, Woolsey (Robert Picardo), Caldwell (Mitch Pileggi), Ronon and Keller take the Daedalus to meet with Todd the Wraith (Christopher Heyerdahl). And what happens if the Wraith learn this? When things get triggered, combat ensues, and this is not going to go well for anyone.
And can Sheppard (Joe Flanigan) find a way to save McKay and Jackson? Or will Atlantis have it’s own problems? You’d better believe the latter! Parts of Atlantis blow and lead us right to a To Be Continued!
It’s big and fun, and definitely leaves us wondering what this new species reveal means for the rest of the series. We don’t even know what they look like under their armor, or who they are.
It’s a little too late to be introducing some all new villain, especially with only ten eps to go, but let’s see what happens next time!
