Just when the Wraith couldn’t get any creepier they engineer zombie-like mutants, and Beckett (Paul McGillion is back!) and Sheppard (Joe Flanigan) find themselves under assault in a very horror-centric episode written by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie.
Whispers first debuted on 5 September, 2008 and sees Trek alumnus Nicole de Boer guest-starring.
de Boer is Dr. Allison Porter, a member of an SG team that has found another one of Micheal’s (Connor Trinneer) labs, and Beckett, who was back for a quick visit travels with Sheppard to investigate. They meet up with Porter’s all-female SG team, they are the best and the brightest, they just happen to be women.
And what follows becomes a fight for survival, zombie style. There’s a creepy lab, with occupied pods, a heavy forest, and a deserted village – the perfect trappings for a Stargate: Atlantis spin on zombies.
When the pods are open, there are twelve creatures running around – and the team gears up. The creatures have a great look, and really seem rather creepy.
There’s a nice little thing that develops between Beckett and Porter. So, who is going to survive to story’s end?
It’s a fun episode, wonderfully dark, scary and violent.
The episode ends just like the first act began, with some fun interaction between McKay (David Hewlett) and Beckett – you just love seeing the pair together having a good time.
I don’t know if we’ll see these zombie creatures again, but they’re scary, and effective, and this ended up being a very entertaining epiode.

The Queen is predominantly a Teyla (Rachel Luttrell) story. It was written by Alan McCullough, from a story he developed with Alex Levine. It first aired on 12 September, 2008.
Sheppard, McKay, Teyla, Ronon (Jason Momoa) and Keller (Jewel Staite) are arriving on a Wraith ship, having been invited. Keller may have perfected the vaccine that means the Wraith won’t have to feed on humans any more, and Todd thee Wraith (Christopher Heyerdahl) has asked them to meet.
They will need test subject Wraiths, and to get them, they will have to approach another Wraith ship and talk Queen to Queen. Unfortunately, Todd’s ship no longer has a queen… Teyla will have to imitate one. So with a little surgery and medical help, Teyla takes on the role of Queen and goes to infiltrate a fellow Wraith ship.
But Todd isn’t being completely truthful, and there may be another plan at play here. He has a powerplay at work, he wants to seize power before he implements Keller’s vaccine.
While Sheppard and the rest wait on Todd’s ship they begin to suspect that there is more going on here, and that Todd really can’t be trusted at all. Hopefully the team will be able to get away and prepare to face the Wraith on another day.
A good episode, but Whispers was soooo good.
